New striker added to CPD Y Rhyl 1879 women’s squad

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 Women have added another quality forward to their squad as preparations step up for the 2023-24 season.

Eleanor Thomas, 21, is best known for her time with Northop Hall, whom she represented through the junior ranks up to senior level.

A strong, tall striker with great heading and shooting ability, Eleanor has not played since the 2021-22 season, which kicked off with a 1-0 defeat for her Hall side against champions-to-be Rhyl 1879.

Eleanor first caught the football bug in primary school when she competed in a Dragon Sports tournament.

She developed into a great prospect at Northop Hall, her achievements including landing a runners-up medal in the 2014-15 North Wales Under-14 Girls League campaign.

Eleanor will not feel like a stranger at Rhyl, as she formerly played alongside current Lilywhite Chelsea Evans. Indeed in the past, Eleanor has cited Chelsea as an inspirational team-mate.

She also highly rates ex-Hall colleague Laura Eagles, sister of current Rhyl 1879 defender Hana.

Eleanor is Rhyl’s third new signing of the summer, following fellow striker Sade Benjamin and defender Alicia Duke, who both departed NFA.

A confirmed fan of Billie Eilish and Lucy Bronze, Eleanor looks sure to be an ideal fit for the friendly and enthusiastic 1879 group.
