Double joy on a memorable day for Chirk’s cricketers

SHROPSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE
DIVISION ONE
Newtown (1) 131-9 Chirk (24) 135-5
Nick Flack was a five-wicket hero for a Chirk side which claimed a very impressive victory at the DPD Recreation Ground.
Hosts Newtown won the toss and batted, but were restricted to a modest 131-9 off 45 overs, Griff Davies their chief contributor with 33.
The Powys men were 83-7 at one stage, but the tail wagged well enough to manage a more respectable total.

Flack bowled really well for the visitors, taking 5-21 off 14 economical overs, Luke Gardner collecting 2-54.
In reply, Chirk were always in control, ending on 135-5 off 41.5 for a 24-1 points triumph.
Wicket-keeper James Carter notched 50 exactly for the North Walians, openers Oliver Gough and Liam Walker adding 29 and 20 respectively.
DIVISION EIGHT
Chirk 2nd XI (20) 196-5 Quayside 1st XI (5) 162-10
Rob Williams cracked a club best 98 not out in a very pleasing first win of the season for Chirk seconds at the expense of second-placed Quayside.
The hosts elected to bat after calling the coin correctly and chalked up 196-5 off 40 overs, thanks largely to that marvellous knock from number six bat Williams.
Martin Wright was not out with him at the end on 28.
Quayside were then dismissed for 162, Connor Dyke an excellent 4-26 and Rhys Evans 3-23, Jamie White putting up best resistance with 61 for the away side.
