A first league win in five attempts from Corwen – and an impressive one at that.
Two early efforts made it a promising start for the visitors before a Llandrindod corner smashed against the bar and rebounded into the six-yard box, Corwen eventually clearing the danger.
At the other end a cross from Owen Cordiner nearly led to a goal of the season contender as Gethin Edwards launched a spectacular scorpion kick, which went just wide.
The deadlock was broken in the 31st minute, when home goalkeeper James Barker gave the ball away under pressure from Scott Evans. He played the ball back to Cordiner, who slotted beyond the stranded custodian for 1-0.
Two minutes later, Matthew Pleavin’s shot forced a good save out of Barker.
The hosts looked for a leveller as Thomas Durant unleashed a powerful strike, but Rhys Jones stretched to pull off a great save.
In the closing stages of the half, Corwen captain Scott Evans made it 2-0 from a 25-yard free kick, Barker getting a hand to the ball but unable to keep it out
Five minutes into the second half, a quick counter attack came to fruition when Edwards played in Cordiner, who got through on goal and placed the ball beyond the Llandrindod number one to put the visitors three-up.
Just before the hour mark, Jack Evans pulled one back from a penalty..
Ten minutes later Corwen restored their three-goal cushion, as Scott Evans played a corner across the face of goal and Harry Pooler was well placed to head home at the far post.
Bow Street 3 Penycae 1
Sion Ewart (2) and Ifan Burrell found the net as Bow produced a strong second half display to seal the points, Eric Durnell replying for Penycae, who had Will Scott dismissed for a second yellow on 70 minutes.
Cefn Albion 1 Rhayader Town 0
The on-fire Callum Mannion secured the honours for Albion with a 69th minute goal which decided a close-fought clash.
Dolgellau AA 2 Llangollen Town 3
Benjamin Wilson (2) and Kristian Jones produced the goals which earned the victory for Llangollen, Dan Thomas and Dominic Thomas responding for the hosts.
Llanuwchllyn 1 Caersws 4
A huge three points on the road for the leaders, who were expected to face a tough test at Llanuwchllyn.
Glyn Coney, Harry Cottam, George Mitten and Norton Collins netted one each for the Bluebirds, Garmon Hafal with the sole home reply.
LOCK STOCK ARDAL NORTH WEST LEAGUE
Llandudno Albion 1 Flint Mountain 2
More heartbreak for Albion as they gave one of the top sides a real battle only to lose out to a late winner.
Despite having Sam Jones red-carded on 28 minutes, goals from Calyn Spencer (38) and Richie Foulkes on 78 won it for Mountain, Jack Atherton equalising for the hosts late in the first half.
Llay Welfare 2 Nantlle Vale 3
Hat-trick hero Ashley Owen guided Nantlle to victory at The Ring, his goals scored on 22, 51 and 75 minutes, the latter a penalty.
Net-finders Matthew Thompson and Will Nevitt ran Llay close, but not close enough.
Rhostyllen 2 CPD Y Felinheli 0
After 20 games without a win, Rhostyllen completed back-to-back victories.
Having broken their duck the previous weekend with a 7-2 blockbuster at Llandudno Albion, the Wrexham side overcame Y Felinheli 2-0 at The Rec, Cavan Daley and Tom Douglas with the second half goals despite having Josh Jones red-carded in between.
Bangor 1876 2 CPD Y Rhyl 1879 1
Corrig McGonigle’s late winner secured three priceless points for 1876 after a Jack Higgins penalty for Rhyl had cancelled out Jamie Petrie’s first-minute goal for the hosts.
This match was reported on in depth by Grassroots North Wales at the weekend.
