LIVERPOOL CRICKET COMPETITION – FINAL NORTH WALES REPORTS 2022 SEASON

Last weekend we focused on Colwyn Bay’s magnificent final day victory which clinched them promotion to the 1st XI ECB Premier League.

Now we look back on the rest of the last-day matches involving teams from North Wales.

1ST XI FIRST DIVISION

Highfield (25) 105-7 Northop Hall (4) 104-10

A season to forget ended on a low note for already relegated Northop Hall, although they did give hosts Highfield a run for their money.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Hall finished 104 all out, Jamie Hodgson doing best with 35, while Carwyn Johnson added 29.
The visitors had Highfield 78-6 in reply and still with work to do, but Hall had simply not scored enough runs and left themselves with too small a total to defend.
The home side reached 105-7 to pocket the points 25-4, Johnson taking 3-23 and Dhanosh Kaludewa 2-11.

1ST XI SECOND DIVISION

Wavertree (24) 190-10 Prestatyn (5) 75-10

Prestatyn had to settle for eighth place in an 11-team division following a heavy loss in Liverpool.
Wavertree chose to bat and were in deep bother at 23-4, but Ben Smith (55) led the fightback and the hosts eventually posted 190 all out.
Benjamin Hughes took 3-27 for the visitors, Adam Tidswell 2-30, Kieron Tidswell 2-31 and Sampath Perera 2-46, the Sri Lankan finishing the campaign on 57 league wickets.
Prestatyn were bowled out for just 75 in reply.

2ND XI PREMIER DIVISION

Colwyn Bay 2nd XI (25) 160-4 Wallasey 2nd XI (5) 156-10

Bay seconds rounded off an excellent season for the club by finishing runners-up in the Premier Division.
Division One champions last year, the Penrhyn Avenue side made a magnificent impact back at the higher level, having been relegated from the top flight in 2019.
Last Saturday’s tussle saw Bay dismiss Wallasey seconds for 156, Shaun Davies bagging 3-16 and Jamie Moorhouse 2-30.
In reply, Bay reached 160-4 in 30.1 overs, Arthur Jones leading the scoring with 46, Ed Williams-Gray 36 not out.

2ND XI FIRST DIVISION

Northop Hall 2nd XI (5) 36-10 Wavertree 2nd XI (25) 181-10

Sion Hellen took 4-19 and Renit Adke 4-23 as Hall seconds bowled out Wavertree seconds for 181 at Smithy Lane.
After that it was all downhill for the Hall as they were blitzed out for a paltry 36, Hellen the sole top-figure merchant with 12.
Despite this grim ending to the season, the North Wales side did avoid relegation.

2ND XI SECOND DIVISION

Prestatyn 2nd XI (4) 105-10 Highfield 2nd XI (20) 106-4

Jaden Ablett was chief contributor with 24 as Prestatyn seconds were sent packing for 105 and visitors Highfield seconds went on to win fairly comfortably, although Issac Sheridan took an impressive 2-9 off seven overs for the hosts.
