It ended 1-1 at The Riverside where Ben Duffy’s 82nd minute strike rescued a point for hosts Penycae.

Jones also denied former Corwen player Liam Sklenar soon after.

Five minutes before half time, the home side collected the ball in their own half and put a quick move together which saw Duffy’s shot clear keeper Jones but come back off the post.

The visitors had to twice clear off the line before threatening at the other end, Morgan Daykin’s shot flying just wide of the far post.

Shortly after the restart, Penycae’s Daniel Holland had a strike tipped over the bar by Jones.

A minute later Corwen were awarded a free kick for handball. Henry Evans floated the ball into the path of his cousin Scott Evans, who ran on and found the far top corner of the net to open the scoring.

Not long after Penycae were awarded a free kick in a dangerous position.

Nicky Williams was able to curl the ball around the wall, but also narrowly wide of the target.

Scott Evans had a chance to make it 2-0, but missed from close range.

In the 82nd minute the visitors gave the ball away, allowing Duffy to beat the advancing keeper and score for 1-1.

Corwen pushed to regain the lead, but keeper Benjamin Darlington foiled Daykin and Kian Harrison.
