Brymbo seconds opener George Bourne must have felt a touch of Déjà vu when he hit a personal best 107 in his team’s win over Denbigh seconds at the weekend.
Skipper Bourne’s second career hundred on August 6, 2022, came almost six years to the day since his previous one.
He was playing for Brymbo seconds on August 7, 2016, and posted 102 versus…Denbigh seconds!
Winning the toss and electing to bat, leaders Brymbo piled up 270-3 off 40 overs, Bourne being well supported by opening partner Joss Roberts, who was out for 98.
Amidst the hammer, Denbigh bowler John Lloyd Williams emerged relatively unscathed, taking 3-38 off nine overs.
The hosts were dismissed for just 50, Ross Roberts 3-7, Ioam Craven-Jones 2-9 and Wayne Smith 2-12.
Bethesda 2nd XI (3) 125-10 Gwersyllt Park 2nd XI (12) 155-6
Joey Desena’s club best score of 90 was key in Gwersyllt Park seconds setting a winning total of 155-6 at Bethesda seconds.
Desena put on a match-clinching stand of 113 for the third wicket with Michael Griffiths (27).
John Maloney produced great figures for Pesda of 3-21 off nine overs, Craig Jeffreys 2-30.
Ryan McCarthy then bagged a magnificent 6-47 as the hosts were dismissed for 125 in response, opener Jez Shea 33 for the Ogwen Valley side.
Buckley 2nd XI (1) 155-10 Conwy 2nd XI (14) 157-3
Opener and skipper Carwyn Thomas struck 69 not out to lead Conwy seconds to victory at Lane End.
Hosts Buckley seconds were all out for 155, Mike Wooton 34 not out, with Llinos Hill taking 3-30 and Harry Driscoll 2-11 for the visitors.
Connah’s Quay 2nd XI (14) 121-2 Pwllheli 2nd XI (1) 117-10
Jake Chare’s half-century did most to guide the Quay to an eight-wicket success at home to Pwllheli seconds.
Put into bat, the seven-man visitors were all out for 117, Ben Cowper starring with 62 but getting little support from elsewhere,
Andy Tilley scooped 2-14 and Matthew Dix 2-37 for the Deesiders, who then breezed to 121-2 in 22.5, Chare with 53.
Mynydd Isa & Maeshafn (1) 73-10 Pontblyddyn 2nd XI (14) 77-2
Second-place Pont seconds are 27 points behind leaders Brymbo seconds but have two games in hand on the Steelmen.
The Alder Meadow outfit were comfortable winners at Mynydd Isa and Maeshafn on Saturday, 73 all out playing 77-2.
Ioan Jones took 4-10, David Brilley 2-14 and Daz Wilcock 2-15 for the away side, who made their target in 20.2 overs, Richard Davies 38 not out.
Ruthin 2nd XI (11) 159-4 Abergele 2nd XI (4) 152-8
Rock-bottom Ruthin seconds, who are on minus 53 points, gave themselves a welcome boost on Saturday by earning just their second win of the season.
Skipper Huw Watson posted 55 not out and Ifan Hanifa 37 as the hosts made 159-4 off 40 overs.
Gele finished just eight short of victory in reply, posting 152-8, Richard Henderson 4-28 and Oliver Jones 3-42 for the hosts.
DIVISION FOUR
Marchwiel and Wrexham 2nd XI (0) 117-10 Corwen (15) 295-3
Promoted Corwen also edged a step closer to the league title with a maximum points success at Marchwiel Hall.
Tom King produced the league’s biggest knock of the day, smacking 131 as Corwen set a massive 295-3 after being put into bat.
Skipper Kevin Sharp added 59 not out and Mark Wyeth 48 no.
James Spencer’s defiant 47 was the main feature of the home reply, which amounted to 117 all out, Gareth Rigden 5-22 and Richard Hughes 2-24.
Llanrwst 2nd XI (4) 60-10 Halkyn 2nd XI (11) 75-10
It was far closer at Gwydir Park, where visitors Halkyn seconds triumphed by 15 runs.
Put into bat, the away side were dismissed for 75, Gaz Jones 4-6 and Ethan Harborne 2-17 for the Rwsters.
In reply, the hosts could only manage 60 for all 10 wickets lost, Halkyn hero Finlay Rooke Hart, eight overs, five maidens, five wickets for five runs, Anthony Green 2-16.
