WELSH CRICKET CUP SEMI-FINAL

Colwyn Bay 159-10 Swansea 162-5
Result: Swansea won by 5 wickets

Hopes of a North Wales triumph in the Welsh Cup are over for another year after Swansea took the honours at Penrhyn Avenue this afternoon.

Colwyn Bay won the toss and chose to bat, but could only manage a modest 159 all out from 35.4 of their allotted 40 overs.

Opener Will Evans made 38, while Jack Parry (24), Zack Gidlow (23) and Arthur Jones (22 not out) all produced useful contributions.

Wales all-rounder Brad Wadlan collected 3-12, Jake Roberts 3-27 and Adnan Ghori 3-43 for the South Walians.

In reply, Swansea raced to 61-0 before Wadlan was caught by Sion Morris off the majestic Paul Jenkins for 22.

While the visitors had a couple of alarms, they eventually reached 162-5 off 28.2 without too much bother, Jake Roberts 69 and Wales’ Cameron Hemp 35 no.

Jenkins took an excellent 2-24 off eight, while Adam Campion picked up 2-49.

This year brings the 50th Welsh Cup competition and North Wales have won it just six times – Brymbo with three victories, Northop Hall, Llandudno and Colwyn Bay one apiece.
