Ynys Môn women’s football squad seeking new coaching team for 2023 Island Games

Ynys Môn Women’s Football squad are seeking a new coaching team.

Silver medal-winning duo Karen Williams and Mo Eynon have relinquished their roles as manager and assistant-coach of the senior team after an incredibly successful period at the helm.

Karen took charge of the team for Jersey 2015 when Ynys Môn Women returned to competing at the Games after a 12-year hiatus.

It was a tough first year for a very young and inexperienced side but through Karen’s leadership and management she helped the crew improve, work as a team and use their experiences from Jersey to benefit them when competing in Gotland in 2017.

For the home 2019 Inter Games Football Tournament, Mo joined Karen on the coaching team. Together they inspired the ladies all the way to the final, ending up with a silver medal after a narrow 2-1 loss to Isle of Man in the showpiece match at Holyhead.

Before that they had beaten Jersey in the semis and Western Isles 3-1 in the group stage. Anglesey produced the tournament’s top-scorer in five-goal Lexi Crawley.

In a statement, the Ynys Mon Island Games Association said: “We would like to place on record our deepest thanks to Karen, Mo and their staff for the fantastic work they’ve put in for football on the island over the years.

“Their efforts have laid very strong foundations for a new coaching staff to come in and build upon. Women’s football is in a great place because of them.”

With less than a year now till the Guernsey 2023 NatWest International Island Games XIX, the search for a new managerial team begins and Ynys Môn Women’s Football are accepting applications for the position of Head Coach.

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside both experienced Island Games competitors and young talent raring to be given the chance to represent Ynys Môn.

The Games take place from July 8-14, 2023 and the football competition will be played across 5 venues on Guernsey.

The football tournament will consist of a group stage followed by the knockout stage for successful teams and position play-offs for the remaining sides.

Apply to ynysmonfootball@gmail.com expressing an interest and including details of the qualifications held and relevant experience. Experience within a football manager/coaching role is required and a minimum UEFA C Licence qualification.

It would also be desirable (but not essential) if the candidate had experience within the female game.
