Good winning debut experience for Wales cricket newcomer Owen Reilly

Bangor CC all-rounder Owen Reilly could feel more than satisfied with his debut for the national side this week.

The 20-year-old picked up a couple of wickets as Wales NC defeated Wiltshire in their three-day clash at Panteg CC to go top of the NCCA Western Division Two table.

Holyhead man Reilly, who took five wickets at Lord’s for a Cricket Wales select side against the MCC back in April, pocketed an excellent 2-35 off nine overs on Sunday as Wiltshire posted 362-5 off 90 overs in their first innings.

Reilly’s first wicket saw him tempt an edge off opener Jack Stearman to slip, where Aneurin Norman took a juggling catch.

In reply, Wales trailed by 74 after being dismissed for 284 and were then set 287 for victory after Wiltshire declared their second innings on 208-9.

And the Welsh reached their target, getting to 287-6 in 63.5 overs to seal a superb win, Connor Brown (87), Sam Pearce (79 no) and Greg Smith (71) all producing crucial knocks.

Reilly’s batting experience was very brief and he did not bowl in Wiltshire’s second innings, but scooped a catch.

The former Anglesey Aluminium CC and Pwllheli man could content himself with that fine first innings bowling effort though, as well as being part of a Wales victory.
