North Wales Division Two – Bethesda join Menai Bridge and Denbigh on 13 straight wins

DIVISION TWO

Bethesda (13) 86-4 Bersham (2) 84-10

Just like the leaders of the Premier and Division One, Bethesda also boast a perfect record of 13 wins from 13 matches.

Not sure how unusual that is – all teams heading the top three divisions of a cricket league having identical stats of a baker’s dozen of victories apiece and no defeats.

It probably doesn’t happen very often and certainly pours scorn (temporarily at least) on the long-spouted theory that 13 is an unlucky number.

Of the three divisional dominators, Bethesda have the most points (184) and added another 13 to the collection on Saturday with a win over Bersham at Parc Villa.

Put in by the hosts, the nine-man Colliers were all out for just 84, skipper Jonath David making 30 and Nilanka De Silva 28.

For the leaders, Craig Newey pocketed 3-24, Richard Lee Williams 2-19 and Ashley Rowlands 2-20.

Pesda reached 86-4 in just 13 overs, Nicholas Parry best with 28, Fadalameen Chalil 2-17 for the visitors.

Clwb Criced Caernarfon (2) 143-6 Menai Bridge 2nd XI (13) 203-8

Lad and dad openers, Sam and Matt Bixby, both notched fifties to ensure Menai Bridge seconds’ winning run continued at Coed Helen.

Father Matt made 60 and skipper Sam 51 as the Anglesey side chalked up 203-8 off 40 overs, Monis Altaf taking 3-27 and Llyr Erddyn Davies 3-44 for the Cofis.

Caernarfon were limited to 143-6 off their 40, Ian Morgan 46, while for the Bridge, Dion Owen picked up 2-17 and James Jones 2-22.

Gresford 2nd XI (1) 65-10 Northop 2nd XI (14) 66-2

Finn Jenkins scooped 4-12, Joe Griffiths 3-10 and Darren Williams 3-12 as Northop seconds dismissed their hosts for just 65 at Clappers Lane.

The visitors eased to 66-2 in 17, skipper Darren Williams a commanding 44 not out for the 14-1 winners.

Hawarden Park 2nd XI (12) 147-5 Carmel and District (3) 101-10

On a day where stunning bowling figures were almost the norm across the league, Evan Shaw snapped up a fabulous 5-8 off six overs as Hawarden seconds saw off the challenge of Carmel at Moor Lane.

Winning the toss and deciding to bat, the Park rustled up 147-5 off 40 overs, Jared Bennett 38, Aled Wilkinson 30 and Anthony Salisbury 30 no.

Danny Owens produced a good spell of 2-17 off nine for the visitors.

Carmel were then blitzed out for just 101, Shaw’s wonder arm leading the way, while Tom Wilson took 2-8 and Michael Almond 2-28.

Mochdre 2nd XI (1) 178-10 Ruthin (14) 179-2

Jac Evans starred with 90 and opener Dafydd Roberts added 55 as Ruthin took just 27.3 overs to make the 179 needed for victory.

Mochdre seconds were invited to bat and finished up 178 all out, skipper Scott Roberts 55 and Gareth Colman 54, Jonny Clayton 4-33, Osian Roberts 3-28 and Matthew Duckworth 2-22 for the visitors.

Evans and Dafydd Roberts then guided the away side to a 14-1 points verdict in some style. Evans’ knock included 10 fours and five sixes.

Mold 2nd XI (3) 175-7 St Asaph 2nd XI (12) 212-10

All-rounder David North made a second-highest career score of 85 as Saints triumphed by 37 runs at Chester Road.

Asaph elected to bat and number seven North totally dominated, the next highest score in the innings being Matt Owens’ 28 as the visitors were bowled out for 212, having been six down for not too many.

For the hosts, John Williams snared 3-29, Chris Boulton and Gareth Davies both 3-35.

Boulton then struck 62 and Tom Croston 42 as Mold’s response ended on 175-7, North 2-30 and Mike Thompson 2-39.
