Former Llangefni Town signing has World Cup dream in his sights

A Canadian midfielder who once signed for Llangefni Town hopes to boost his chances of representing the Maple Leafs at the 2022 World Cup after an impressive season playing in Gibraltar.

Noah Eisenberg played the past season for two clubs in the Gibraltar National League.

He started with Europa Point and then in the January window switched to College 1975 FC.

With Canada having qualified in March for the 2022 World Cup, Eisenberg hopes his form in Gibraltar could put him in the frame for the Qatar finals.

The Canadians have been drawn in Group F alongside Belgium, Morocco and Croatia.

This is only Canada’s second World Cup appearance in total. They finished last in Group C in 1986, with a 1-0 loss to France and 2-0 defeats to Hungary and the Soviet Union in Mexico.

The 24-year-old Eisenberg from Montreal left home at 17 to try to make his mark as a soccer player in the USA. 

He attended prep schools in Maine and New Hampshire, before accepting an NCAA scholarship at Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama. 

This tough, physical midfielder used that as a springboard to play in Belgium, Northern Ireland and Wales.
Eisenberg signed for then second-tier Cymru North club Llangefni in summer 2020, but sadly Covid wiped out the entire 2020-21 Welsh football season, except in tier 1.

The Canuck never got to kick a competitive ball for Cefni, who were disappointed to see him move on and try his luck in Gibraltar.

Eisenberg wanted to take advantage of playing in a small country — Gibraltar’s population is 34,000 — using it as a platform to ascend. He believes he’s talented enough to play First Division in Israel, Cyprus or Austria.

He considers himself a playmaker and hard worker while keeping his game simple, and wants to eventually resurface with an MLS team — after exhausting all opportunities overseas.

Gibraltar’s 2022-23 domestic season kicks off in the autumn.

Eisenberg has had offers to remain there, but is also weighing up approaches from clubs in Israel and other European countries.
