Michael Cunningham’s Mold heroes will aim to complete a remarkable treble when they take on Caersws in the Lock Stock Ardal Northern League Cup final at Penycae this Saturday (May 7, 2.30 pm).

Alex already have a double in the bag, having clinched the inaugural Tier 3 Ardal North West League title on Tuesday night with a 5-1 win over Saltney Town, 10 days after capturing the national FAW Trophy, beating Baglan Dragons 1-0 in the final at Caersws.

Mold are most worthy league champions, having won 24 of their 28 matches, losing just twice and netting 101 goals.

Needing a victory to make sure of top spot with two games to spare, the result against Saltney was never in doubt. It was the blues’ 12th league win on the bounce since the start of 2022.

Who else but Danny Warren to give Alex a lead in the very first minute, the first team top-scorer sliding the ball home after being picked out by Joey Ormrod.

Matty Lewis made it 2-0 on 23 minutes and only the heroics of Bordermen keeper Josh Cooke in denying Jacob Wise and Warren kept the score down.

However, a minute before the break Steve Watkins knocked home a Warren corner to ensure Mold had one hand firmly on the league trophy.

Saltney hit back five minutes into the second half through Jordan O’Brien’s deflected shot, but a fourth for the hosts was not too far away.

In the 57th minute, Lewis set up Warren for his 34th league goal of the campaign and 47th in all competitions.

It was all over bar the shouting and Jimmy Ellina converted a penalty he earned himself in the 74th minute.

The champions celebrated at the final whistle and now have a three-timer in their sights for the weekend.
