Ardal North East – Chirk AAA still in the title race driving seat – but Caersws are far from finished

Chirk AAA’s lead at the Ardal North East summit could be whittled down to goal difference if nearest challengers Caersws win both their matches this week.

The Bluebirds entertain Dolgellau Athletic on Tuesday night and host basement boys Four Crosses on Friday.

A pair of victories would put the Powys outfit level on 73 points with Chirk, although they would have played a game more than the Colliers.

Before tonight’s fixture, the AAA’s have a better GD than ‘Sws of + 24.

Chirk, who have two matches left, are not in action again until Berriew visit Holyhead Road this Sunday.

Caersws are home to Chirk in the final league game of the season on April 30, so what an occasion that could be.

Meanwhile, Andy Pryde’s Colliers kept doing all they can do to maximise their title hopes when they whipped Machynlleth 4-0 at home on Saturday.

Chirk recorded their eighth successive win at the expense of a Mach outfit battling against relegation.

Louie Middlehurst fired Chirk ahead on 23 minutes before Lewis Clamp doubled the home side’s lead soon after.

Chirk had to wait until the hour mark to further increase their lead with leading scorer Dale Davies notching his 18th league goal of the season.

The hosts made several substitutions with one of them James Rogers notching Chirk’s final goal on 85 minutes to cement the win.

Carno 2 Caersws 3

Luke Mumford (2) and Matthew Mumford bagged the goals which ensured Caersws took the points at a resilient home side.

Sean Wild and Adam Biggs replied for Carno.

Cefn Albion 3 Berriew 0

Two goals from Alex Williams and a Conner Kendrick single sealed the win which ensured it is still mathematically possible for Cefn to claim the title.

Corwen 1 Four Crosses 1

Four Crosses were on course for that elusive first league win of the season at the 29th attempt after a Nicholas Owen own goal gave them a 40th minute lead at the War Memorial Park.

The visitors stayed in front until the 78th minute when Tomos Hughes knocked in the equaliser which earned Corwen a point.

Bow Street 4 Penycae 1

Richy Ricketts (2), Iolo ap Dafydd and Llyr Davies split the goals which earned Bow Street a well-deserved three points.

Jaden Jones scooped Penycae’s solitary reply. The visitors had Michael Parry red-carded in the 73rd minute.
