Managerless Wrexham AFC Women returned to winning ways as caretaker boss Steve Dale oversaw a convincing success at Llanfair United.
Second half strikes from Rebecca Pritchard, Lauren Reese and Amber Lightfoot sealed victory in a game which saw the Reds on top throughout.
After a goalless first half, Wrexham finally broke the deadlock early in the second stanza.
Pritchard’s left foot sizzler gave Llanfair keeper Melany Price no chance.
Seconds earlier Llanfair had a goal of their own chalked off for offside, whilst Lightfoot’s 35-yard strike clattered the crossbar.
On the hour mark the visiting Reds doubled their advantage as Reese rifled home after her initial strike was blocked.
With 20 minutes to play substitute and top-scorer Rosie Hughes threaded a ball through for Pritchard down the right. The winger raced on to the ball before forcing a save from Price, with the latter scrambling clear as Pritchard looked to pounce.
Hughes turned provider on 85 minutes as she released Lightfoot before the 19-year old lashed past the goalkeeper.
Llanfair nabbed a consolation through Tonicha Lloyd in stoppage time.
Wrexham AFC confirmed yesterday that women’s first-team manager Mari Edwards has stepped down from her role at the club with immediate effect.
Edwards, who took charge in the summer, guided the team to the second round proper of the FAW Welsh Cup, where they lost 3-0 to The New Saints, as well as the knockout stages of the Adran Trophy.
After a promising start in the league, with a 6-0 first-day win over Pwllheli, Wrexham then lost back-to-back matches 8-3 at Bethel and 5-2 at Connah’s Quay.
Edwards’ last game in charge was a 5-4 defeat at former club Airbus in the Adran Trophy group stage on October 31. Despite this, the Dragons advanced to the last 16 on goal difference.
The club will now look to appoint a new women’s first-team manager with the process beginning immediately.
