Wrexham 6 (R Hughes 7, 27 & 59; McKenzie 25. Suckley 33 & 43)

Last season’s Ardal North scoring sensation Rosie Hughes passed 50 competitive goals in just 22 matches for Wrexham with an opening day hat-trick at Mount Field.

Hughes, 26, hit 36 league goals and 48 in all competitions over 21 games last season.

She was top-scorer across all the Adran Leagues and won the Adran North Player of the Season award.

On Sunday, she chalked up her ninth hat-trick for Wrexham in a 6-0 victory at Llanfair United.

Last season saw the Reds finish runners-up in the senior Adran North as well as win the Under-19 League crown.

The team, which will play its home games at Ponciau Banks, Rhos Aelwyd, this season are aiming to go one better this term.

Retaining the services of Hughes is a massive boost.

Her goals record for Wrexham after today now reads:

Adran North: Games 15 Goals 39
NEWFA Women’s Cup: Games 1 Goals 2
Adran Trophy: Games 4 Goals 5
FAW Welsh Cup: Games 2 Goals 5
TOTAL GAMES: 22
TOTAL GOALS: 51

Hughes was on fire from the start of the opening game at Llanfair.

Her first-minute cross was tipped onto the bar, before Rebecca Pritchard’s follow-up was saved at point-blank range.

Six minutes later, however, Hughes was off the mark when she tapped in Libby Mackenzie’s low cross from close-range.

The lead was doubled when Mackenzie got the final touch following a TJ Dickens corner.

Then on 27 minutes, Hughes scored her 50th Wrexham goal, running onto a through ball to slot in from close-range.

The visitors were rampant now, new signing Ava Suckley making it 4-0 on 33 minutes, heading in at the back post from Pritchard’s deep cross.

Two minutes before the break, Suckley drove home from 25 yards.

Half-time: 0-5

Hughes sealed her hat-trick on 58 minutes when she could not miss after Suckley’s effort came back off the post.
