Meet the Player 2021-22: Nic Bould (Mochdre Sports)

Having appeared for both Bangor City and Caernarfon Town in the Welsh Premier, goalkeeper Nic Bould’s experience is proving a great asset for North Wales Coast East Premier Division side Mochdre Sports this season.
Nic, 26, is quite a comedian. He’s right up there with Joel (Skip) Lloyd in creating the most giggles on social media. Sometimes with funny footballers, it can be easy to forget how good they are, but that’s not the case with Nic and Skip.
Fortune favours the Bould as they say (or something close to it) – and this was certainly true when in the 2019-20 season, Nic did a ‘Jimmy Glass, Peter Schmeichel and that Liverpool keeper’ all in one when he came up for a corner to score a last-gasp equaliser for Mynydd Llandegai against Denbigh Town.
Nic also revealed this week that Charlie Lloyd has become Ben Evans’ agent following the defender’s wonder goal against Bro Cernyw. I worry for both. Charlie has already booked Ben a gig opening a new bus shelter in Pentrefoelas.
Here is an insight into what makes Nic tick.

Most memorable game played in
Picks itself really. Mynydd Llandegai 3 Denbigh Town 3 (2019-20). Scored a last minute equaliser after the keeper had punched the clearance into my path. What people won’t tell you is that I’d duffed a clearance for their 3rd goal so I was on the redemption trail for that goal

Biggest highlight of football career so far
I think saying that I have played Welsh Premier League is one. One that I don’t really mention is a tournament that I played in when I was 16. Played against a Stoke City academy side and I saved 4 penalties. Quite nice because my brother scored in normal time.
Best save made
Probably one in last pre-season where we played against Llandudno Albion. Tipped a free-kick onto the post from the edge of the box.
Strengths to your game
I have always been a shot stopper and that it my main strength. People may disagree with me but on my day my kicking is decent
Weaknesses
I am my own worst critic and I get in my own head too easily.
Best team-mate played alongside
Gethin Jones. Played with him at Bangor Academy. Went on to join Everton and is now at Bolton.
Hardest opponent faced
Peter Jones of Llandudno Albion. Played against him many times growing up and he always had one over on me. Hell of a left foot.
Biggest influence in football
My Dad. Saw him play against a former teacher growing up and had him in his back pocket. Also have to mention Ioan Llewelyn, helped me to enjoy playing.
Funniest team-mate
Sit in a dressing room with Doombar (Alex Williams). Love to get a list of the stuff he comes out with, it’s just ridiculous!

Favourite away ground
Maesdu Road
Other sporting achievements
I like my cricket (plays for Colwyn Bay CC). I fancy myself as a bit of a batsman. Top scored with 86 last season, hopefully next one I’ll bag a ton
How do you see Mochdre Sports’ prospects for the rest of the season?
We are trying to finish as high as we can. We had a slow start but we have hit a bit of form. We have a side that doesn’t give in and I’m confident of a top half finish.

Win some silverware with Mochdre
