CPD Porthmadog 3 (Jones Evans 7, 59; McDaid 70)

Ten years ago today Gareth Jones Evans struck twice for a Porthmadog side which picked up a hard-fought win at Cae Baker.

This result meant Port stayed unbeaten and moved into the Huws Gray Alliance top three for the first time that season.

With only seven minutes on the clock, Jones Evans went on a run down the left, cutting inside along the edge of the penalty box before unleashing a shot which found the corner of the Penrhyn net beyond keeper Richard Morgan’s outstretched right hand.

The visitors looked to build on their lead, Craig Roberts rising well to meet a Clive Williams cross into the box but Morgan was well placed to save.

At the other end, a defensive lapse provided Josh Shaw with a shooting chance but Richard Harvey pulled off a fine point blank save.

As the interval approached Clive Williams found himself in a forward position, but Morgan did well to keep out his close range shot.

Half-time: 0-1

Just before the hour mark Gareth Parry’s men increased their lead when after combining smartly with Darren Thomas, Jones Evans was put through one on one with the keeper and finished clinically from eight yards.

The goal was a signal for Penrhyn to introduce experienced striker Glyndwr Hughes and it was a move which produced an immediate impact.

The home side broke down the right before working the ball across the box for the sub to create a shooting opportunity for Shaw, who fired past Harvey from 8 yards.

The period which followed was the best of the match for the home side as they severely tested the Port defence.

Harvey did well to deny both Hughes and Richard Evans.

Port rode the period of pressure and on 70 minutes sub Marc (Loggs) Evans released Jamie McDaid in behind the home defence in a central position.

McDaid looked up, saw the advancing Morgan well off his line and lifted a clever lob over his head and into the net making the outcome more or less secure.

Both McDaid and Evans went close to a fourth before the end.
