Close fought battle between Bangor 1876 and NFA under-19 sides ends in draw

It ended all-square in this Bangor v Rhyl battle in the new Genero Adran Under-19’s North League played last Friday.

Both teams started well, creating chances at both ends.

Jema Owens was having a cracker in midfield for 1876 and Elin Jones proved a complete rock in defence.

It was not until the 37th minute, though, that 1876 made the advantage count. A long ball over the defence fell to Awel Ellis, who managed to lob the onrushing keeper Courtney Ingram with a top class finish from outside the box.

This seemed to wake NFA up with Rachel Lloyd taking the game to the hosts. With the Rhyl side on the attack they finally got their reward on 41 minutes when they won a corner.

A great ball in and a switched off 1876 defence allowed Sade Benjamin to convert a great headed goal.

Now 1876 rallied and some lovely passing led to another great ball to Ellis, who managed to hold off a defender to smash the ball in from outside the box for her second in the 42nd minute.

Half-time: 1879 2-1 NFA

The second half was a different story. 1876 looked tired from the opening half efforts and this showed as NFA took control, Lloyd controlling the midfield and the attackers causing all kinds of problems for the home defence.

The pressure took its toll and on 51 minutes a mix up at the back allowed Ffion Evans to latch onto a through ball and equalise.

NFA continued to look the more dangerous with efforts from Benajmin, Evans and Jess Mills, but 1876 also defended bravely.

The hosts did create a couple of chances through Ellis and Cerys Parry, but to be fair NFA looked the likelier winners.

HOW IT WORKS

The most under-19’s you recruit, the more seniors can be included in your squad.
Only 3 senior players are permitted on the pitch at any one time and a maximum of 5 seniors are allowed in the squad.
Example:
8 u-19’s allows 3 seniors
9 u-19’s allows 4 seniors
10 u-19’s allows 5 seniors 

Many players aged under 19 already play in senior teams, but they qualify automatically to represent u-19’s and are not classed as seniors in U-19 games.
