LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT CRICKET COMPETITION

2ND XI FIRST DIVISION

COLWYN BAY 2ND XI (6) 151-7 DEC WIGAN 2ND XI (20) 152-4

Although Colwyn Bay seconds suffered a blow to their title hopes with Saturday’s loss to Wigan seconds, the North Wales side still remain in a good position to finish top of the table.

New leaders Birkenhead Park seconds are on 285 points from 19 matches, but Bay are just three points behind with a game in hand.

Put into bat at Penrhyn Avenue on Saturday, the Bay posted 151-7 declared, Matt Russell hitting 44, Sam Bright 40 not out and Jamie Moorhouse 35 no.

The hosts were all at sea after slumping to 99-7, but Bright and Moorhouse put on an unbroken 52 for the eighth wicket. Harry Jackman took 5-78 for the visitors.

Wigan reached the winning post without too many problems, ending on 152-4 off 38.1 overs, Patrick Fairhurst 55 not out, Moorhouse 2-46 for the home side.

Bay seconds are home to North Wales rivals Northop Hall seconds this Saturday

1ST XI FIRST DIVISION

LYTHAM (5) 0-0 COLWYN BAY (5) 61-10

Colwyn Bay were probably very relieved the rain caused Saturday’s test at Lytham to be abandoned.

Put into bat, the Bay were bowled out for just 61 off 38.4 overs, Ryan Holtby doing best with 20, while Zia Ur Rehman Akbar claimed 7-26 from 19 for the hosts.

There was no further action due to the weather, and while Lytham may have found batting equally precarious, they were surely favourites to win.

No decision – 5 points each.
