Being one of North Wales’ top players, Ffion Owen has had a fair few articles published about her on GNW over the past 12 months.
Therefore, a traditional birthday piece today would have been pretty much repetition of all that’s been written before.
Instead, we will publish 10 top highlights from Ffion’s career to date.
Born on March 16, 1996, Ffion hails from Llangefni, Ynys Môn. Her father Terry, mum Nia and brother Gari are all current or former footballers.
Quiet and unassuming off the pitch, Ffion certainly does not hold back when she crosses the white line.
Not only did Ffion lead the Canaries to a resounding North Wales Women’s League championship success four seasons ago, she also netted 33 goals in all competitions. She notched 23 in the league, including four in a 15-2 beating of Bangor.
Ffion scored in every round of the 2016-17 Betty Pickering Cup, grabbing nine goals in all over four ties for Caernarfon.
She hit four against Prestatyn, a hat-trick versus Airbus and one in both the semi and final at the expense of Llanfair and Pwllheli respectively.
Ffion was outstanding in midfield for Anglesey in the Inter-Island Games two years ago.
She was a major influence in Ynys Môn going further in the competition than ever before, reaching the final only to lose to Isle of Man, but still clinching a silver medal.
In her first match for Amlwch, Ffion scored three times in a 9-0 opening day triumph at NFA.
Town went on to win the North Wales League Division Two title.
Ffion’s 19 goals made her Division Two top-scorer and third highest markswoman across all competitions in the whole league.
She netted three trebles in all and hit four in a caning of Llanberis during the campaign.
Ffion started off with Llangefni boys under-9’s, then when she joined her first girls team, the successes flowed.
Llangefni Under-11 Girls won three consecutive league titles and a host of cups and tournaments.
In the 2016-17 Welsh Cup, Caernarfon led twice at Welsh Premier side Rhyl, but ended up losing 3-2.
However, Ffion lit up the tie early in the second half with an amazing long range strike to make it 2-1 to the Canaries.
As a youngster, Ffion was in the Ysgol Corn Hir, Llangefni primary school football team which won a national tournament.
Ffion was in the Caernarfon Town squad which beat Amlwch Town 1-0 in the Betty Pickering final five seasons ago.
Late substitute Lexi Crawley (now Ffion’s team-mate at Amlwch) scored the winner.
Ffion skippered Caernarfon Town on their return to the Welsh Premier Women’s League in 2017-18.
It was not the best of the seasons, but the Canaries did avoid finishing bottom after a 1-0 win over Caldicot Town.
