Bethel star Ffion celebrates 21st birthday today

Today sees one of the North Wales Women’s Football League’s greatest goal scorers celebrate a landmark birthday.

Traditionally, your 21st is the day you first receive the key to the door, but Ffion Wyn Williams has long had the knack of unlocking defences.

The Bethel striker, who turns 21 today along with twin brother Osian, first made her mark as a goalkeeper in the 2013-14 Caernarfon Under-16 Girls side which won a famous quadruple including the Welsh Cup, beating Llanyrafon in the final.

She later joined Bethel as an attacking outfield player and her electric pace and finishing ability soon made Ffion a force to be feared.

In 2016/17 she netted seven goals in a single game against Bangor in the same season Bethel reached the Welsh Cup quarter-finals, going out gallantly 4-2 to a very strong Cardiff City FC Women outfit.

The 2017/18 campaign saw Ffion grab 16 goals for the maroons and the season after she scored 20 in just 15 matches.

In the season just gone, Ffion fired in 11 goals in only six games, pocketing three hat-tricks including one in an epic 4-3 Welsh Cup success at Rhyl.

Very highly rated at Bethel, the club website wrote the following about their lively forward.

“Ffion is a tough, no messing striker whose grit and determination make her one of the best in the league.

“She has the leadership qualities needed to motivate her team-mates and lead by example.

“Her speed, energy and fitness have led her to be one of the most respected footballers around, with a goal record to match.”

Firefighter Ffion also takes part in K-1 martial arts, so she is a true super-fit sporting all-rounder.

Grassroots North Wales wishes Ffion and Osian a very happy 21st birthday, penblwydd hapus.
