Happy birthday to popular local footballer Amy Webster (NFA FC)

Not a lot of people know this…..NFA striker Amy Webster shares the same birthday as Michael Caine, Albert Einstein and former England, Millwall Lionesses, Fulham, Arsenal and Chelsea star Mary Phillip!

That day is today, when Amy will blow out 27 candles on her cake.

Surely one of the tallest female footballers in Wales, Amy hails from Essex and was born on March 14, 1994.

She has played for three clubs in North Wales – Kinmel Bay Girls, Rhyl women and NFA women.

A more than capable goalscorer, Amy can also do a great job as a stand-in goalkeeper, as she has proved several times.

Last season she was part of the new NFA side which competed in North Wales League Division Two, finishing joint top-scorer with 10 which included a hat-trick against Penrhyn Bay in a 6-3 victory.

Before that Amy made quite an impact for Rhyl in the Welsh Premier Women’s League.

She cites her personal highlight as scoring a late equaliser for the Lilywhites in a 1-1 home draw with Llandudno back in March 2017.

Trailing 1-0, Amy came on as a substitute with 10 minutes to go and lashed a left-footed beauty into the net from about 20 yards to secure the point Rhyl needed to stay in the Welsh Premier.

Amy scored fairly regularly against coastal rivals Llandudno, her best goal by far an unbelievable left-foot rocket in off the bar in a losing cause at Maesdu Park in 2015-16.

She regards holding the ball up and her height for flicking balls on as her biggest strength, while admitting her finishing could be better at times and believes she needs to react more positively after missing chances.

Another cracking game Amy recalls was a 2-2 draw at home to mighty Cardiff Metropolitan in February 2018.

On this occasion, she played in goal in place of the injured Samantha Mitchell and had a great game. Rhyl led 2-0 and were on the verge of a first ever North Wales win over Met before the students nabbed a controversial 90th minute equaliser.

Amy won a number of awards during her time at Rhyl where she will always be remembered as a fine player.

It has been great to see her back in football in recent seasons as she had more than six years out of the game after a ligament injury suffered while playing for Kinmel Bay.

She also has size 9 feet and loves a bar of Fruit and Nut (friends take note today!).

Amy is a great person to know and work with, a true asset in the dressing room and a good influence on the younger players.
