Remembering Rob….memories from CPD Bodedern’s 2006-07 season (part 5)

Anglesey football is devastated by the passing of former Bodedern, Llangefni Town and Gwalchmai manager Rob Hughes.

Grassroots North Wales has received some Bodedern FC match reports from the 2006-07 season, during which Rob became first team manager, having been appointed on November 22, 2006.

The reports were written and have been very kindly supplied by Col Smith, Bodedern secretary at the time.

This was Boded’s second season in the tier 2 Cymru Alliance. They finished ninth in 2005-06 and 14th in 2006-07.

Quite fitting that after this match Bodedern’s Rob Hughes was presented with his Manager of the Month Trophy by league chairman Gwynfor Parry.

One of the best Llangefni sides ever may have won the Cymru Alliance this season, but they were held at home by a determined Boded.

The first real attempt on goal was from Corey Sinnott for Bodedern who unleashed with plenty of power but Liam Ewing in goal for Cefni made an easy catch.

Town were unlucky not to score on 37 minutes when their shot hit the post.

The ball rolled along the goal line before Gareth OJ Roberts managed to get hands to it.

Roberts was to make the save of the match on the stroke of half time from a Llangefni free kick dangerously close to goal.

Half-time: 0-0

Just three minutes into the second half Llangefni went 1-0 in front thanks to a goal from Ywain Gwynedd.

On 68 minutes a corner taken by Sinnott gave Tomos Jones the chance to produce a powerfully headed goal and he made no mistake – one apiece.

A couple of minutes later Bodedern’s Marc Evans came close to scoring and taking all 3 points but Ewing managed to block with his legs.

A penalty shout was dismissed by the ref from a handball incident inside the Llangefni area during the closing minutes.

A fair result at the end of the evening and a consistent performance against another of the high-flyers from Bodedern.
