Farewell service for popular football photographer Steve Bowden

A farewell service for local football photographer Steve Bowden will take place later this month.

People can pay their last respects to the popular figure at St Asaph Crematorium on Friday, August 28, at 3 pm.

Named Denbighshire Memorial Park and Crematorium, it is located on the Glascoed Road west of the St Asaph Business Park, near to junction 26 of the A55 expressway, and just west of the historic cathedral city of St Asaph (Llanelwy).

The address of the crematorium is: Glascoed Road, St Asaph, Denbighshire, LL17 0LG.

Steve passed away on August 3 from the effects of Covid-19.

He had been unwell in hospital for a few weeks, but had been showing some improvement before taking a turn for the worse.

Steve was well-known as the photographer for 2019-20 Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division champions Rhuddlan Town.

He also used to take pictures of games at Prestatyn Town, and the Cymru North club gave these words in tribute:

“Steve came to help Prestatyn Town FC as a photographer in the summer of 2019 before transferring to Rhuddlan Town.

“He was one of the good guys; nothing was ever too much for him to make sure that we had photographs of the players and staff from games.

“For someone who was new to football photography he took to it very quickly; he seemed to be in the right place at the right time to capture that shot.

“The lack of Steve’s images will be a big loss to local football.”

Steve was fiancee to Sandra and dad to Adam and Luke.

In a message to Steve’s friends, Sandra said the following in relation to his farewell service: “There are limited numbers inside but people can stand outside I believe and listen to the service via speakers.

“There is a webcast that you can watch up to 28 days later of Steve’s service.

“Any donations received on Luke’s request will be going to Rhuddlan Town FC as Steve was their photographer and him and Luke were treated like part of their family so have a big place in their hearts for them xxx.”
