St Asaph seek fifth manager in under two years after Sleet departs

St Asaph City are seeking their fifth manager in under two years following the departure of Dan Sleet from the Tier 3 club.

Sleet took over in August but the team has lost all seven games of his tenure and sit bottom of Ardal North West on minus two points, having had three deducted for failing to fulfill a league fixture.

The club confirmed this morning it has parted company with former Meliden boss Sleet.

St Asaph are advertising for a replacement and in the interim period, current backroom team Deej Hobson, Glyn Roberts, Jacob Wren and recently appointed Richard Hillier-Evans will run the side between them.

After a highly successful campaign under Matty Roberts in 2022-23, Saints have found the going pretty tough in Tier 3.

Since Roberts left Roe Plas Meadows in January 2024, the club has had four permanent managers and two others have filled in as caretaker for short spells.

That group of managers included the return of Roberts for a second stint which was nowhere near as productive as his first.

At the end of 2022-23, Saints were on cloud nine after winning the treble of Tier 4 North Wales Coast East Premier Division title, NWCFA Intermediate Challenge Cup and Cookson Cup.

They finished a decent sixth in their first season in Ardal North West, ended up 12th of 16 last term and are rock bottom in the current campaign.

The club’s statement this morning read: “St Asaph City can confirm that, following a run of disappointing results, the club has parted company with first team manager Dan Sleet.

“We would like to thank Dan for his contribution during his time at the club and wish him all the very best in his future endeavours.

“In the interim period, first team responsibilities will be shared between Deej Hobson, Glyn Roberts, Jacob Wren and Richard Hillier-Evans.

“Thank you for your continued support.”
