New image for Rhos United as they look to build on fine end to last season

Rhos United Football Club will undergo an image change in more ways than one this season.

The tier 5 North Wales Coast East Division One club have not just a new kit but also an updated badge ready for launch in 2020-21.

Having finished bottom of the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division last term, Rhos are targeting a fresh start in the months ahead.

Bret Durkan and Adam Jones will manage the side this season – and both are full of optimism.

Bret said: “Rhos United felt it was time for a fresh start as we want to go into a new direction and with that comes changes, starting with having a new badge.

“Rhos player Phemmy Allison dedicated his time during lockdown to come up with a few badge designs and then put them forward to the board and players for a vote, which resulted in the new badge design representing the players’ club, designed by a player, chosen by the players.

“Rhos United feel last season was a hard pill to swallow with results etc, however it was a very brilliant learning experience and as we were starting to build a squad and put the pieces of the puzzle together.”

The 2019-20 season was cancelled in March due to Covid-19.

Adam added: “Although there is uncertainty as to when the league will start again, we will want to continue with the hard work the lads have put in and I’m happy to say they have all remained committed and loyal by putting pen to paper and having all signed again.

“This is great news for the club and also with a few new signings coming in we aim to hit the ground running.”

Both Bret and Adam have previously spent many years playing for Rhos.

Bret said: “Funny enough both of us came away with serious injuries; I ruptured my knee and tore my ACL and Adam actually had a triple break and dislocated his ankle.

“Obviously having time away for a while, former manager Ben Wheeler needed some help so started coaching and helping out at Rhos before he decided he wanted to play and had a few more years in him.

“So the manager position came available last year during the difficult time and position Rhos were in and we took it.

“As people will have seen from last year it was an eye opener and tough season, but it gave us an opportunity to slowly build the squad we want and work on correcting faults in the team and club.

“It started to come together and we began to become very competitive before Covid-19.

Rhos recorded an 8-1 win at Henllan in the NWCFA Junior Cup before losing gallantly 3-1 in round three to Llansannan.

They also beat Llanelwy Athletic 4-2 in their final match of the campaign to get off the mark in the league.
