Connah’s Quay Nomads striker Mike Wilde aims to become only the fourth player in history to reach 200 Welsh Premier League goals this season.

The Birkenhead-born front man, 36, is currently fourth in the all-time list on 186 and has given himself hope of making it a double century after signing a new one-year deal with the Nomads today.

Wilde, who won the WPL Golden Boot for the only time in 2012-13 while with The New Saints, joined Nomads in June 2016.

He made his competitive debut in the club’s first ever UEFA Europa League match against Norwegian side, Stabæk Fotball in the same month.

Wilde has gone on to make more than 120 competitive starts for the Deesiders, scoring in excess of 50 occasions including a brace in both the JD Welsh Cup Final victory over Aberystwyth Town in 2018, and the Nathaniel MG Cup Final success versus STM Sports in 2020.

Former Chester FC, Fleetwood and Halifax Town man Wilde was also a key member of the Quay team which landed a first-ever JD Cymru Premier title in the 2019/20 season.

On his new deal, Wilde said “I’m delighted to sign a new contract at the club – it was a fantastic season, and winning the League and League Cup double was just rewards for the great work being done here.

“It’s extremely hard to turn down an offer to keep playing for the Champions and to play in the Champions’ League again.

“I’m still a few goals shy of the 200 mark in the league as well, so I’m going to be gunning for that this season and obviously aiming to retain the title!”

Manager Andy Morrison added: “Wildey has been with us for four years now and has maintained his incredibly high standards.

His desire, professionalism and vision to keep challenging himself is an example to everyone at the club.”
