Carl Thomas has joined Aaron Rowlands’ backroom staff as a coach at Menai Bridge Tigers.

Carl, 38, has had a distinguished career winning trophies at several levels, and was assistant-manager at Chris O’Neal’s successful Bethesda side.

A number of that squad are now with Menai Bridge Tigers, so Carl will be a familiar face to many.

Carl’s career honours include:
Beaumaris – 4 trophies including Anglesey League (2001-02)
Glantraeth – Cymru Alliance League & Cup double (2005-06)
Bethesda – Welsh Alliance League & Cup double (2007-08, 2008-09)

Carl was a key defender in Bethesda’s Welsh Alliance League title-winning sides of 2007-08 and 2008-09.

That 2008-09 team is regarded as one of the greatest ever to win the Welsh Alliance, taking the championship by the biggest margin in the league’s history (19 points) and scoring the most-ever goals (146).

Carl contributed 13 goals himself from defence.

The rock-solid defender went on to represent Pesda in the Cymru Alliance and over the years played and won honours for other local teams including Glantraeth and Beaumaris Town.

He is also a cricketer of much ability, formerly opening the bowling for Menai Bridge in the North Wales League Premier Division.

Tigers manager Rowlands said: “I’ve been looking to add to my backroom team over the the last few months and after speaking with Carl it felt like a good fit.

Carl’s football knowledge and winning mentality will be a great asset and we look forward to him starting with us.”

Rowlands is hoping to announce another addition to his coaching team on Wednesday evening.
