Birthday boy Bret hopes to shine in comeback season for Rhos United

Bret Durkan – 30 on June 18

Bret Durkan celebrates his 30th birthday today – and he has plenty to feel good about.

The former Rhos United manager is on the football comeback trail around four years since a damaged Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) put his future playing days in jeopardy.

It has been a long road back, but Bret had his first contact football training session last month since being officially signed off from physio.

All went well, and the popular West Ham fan is now looking forward to representing Rhos again as a player in the 2022-23 season.

The club released more positive news yesterday, revealing they would play home games at Coleg Llandrillo in the campaign ahead.

Prior to his injury, Bret played for Rhos for a number of years, mainly in an attacking role but also versatile enough to operate in other positions.

In the 2017-18 season, he chalked up a number of goals for Rhos in Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Division One before that bad injury struck.

With 2020-21 wiped out by Covid, Rhos made a fresh start last season with Bret as joint-manager and they finished a respectable eighth in North Wales Coast East Division One.

United took four points off champions Abergele, drew twice with second-placed Cerrigydrudion, beat Llandudno Amateurs and won at Llanelwy Athletic.

On their day they matched the very best and hopefully 2022-23 can see them progress further.

With a positive, look-forward character like Bret Durkan involved, they have a great chance.

Have a great birthday Bret.
