The 2021-22 football season may have recently finished but Llandudno Ladies keep on winning.
The inaugural tier 2 Adran North champions and North Wales Coast Challenge Cup winners came top out of 10 teams today in the Amlwch Town FC 7-a-Side Football Tournament.
Sarah Colville’s side played 9 matches and won 8, scoring 23 goals and conceding just the one, in a 1-0 defeat to runners-up Pwllheli.
The Llandudno squad comprised: Claire Colville, Ffion Owen, Hannah Smith, Caitlyn Bibby-Fry, Becky Jarvis-Evans, Sofie Owen (captain), Madison Williams, Maddie Williams, Jasmin Dutton, Ceri Slaney and Catherine Jones.
Women’s teams competing were: Llandudno, Pwllheli, Llangefni A, Llangefni B, Rhyl 1879 A, Rhyl 1879 B, Bangor 1876, Bangor Under-19’s, Amlwch Town and Trearddur Bay.
What a performance from Pwllheli!
They only had six players initially, but were able to add 15-year-old Casi Evans, who plays for Caernarfon Town boys and has represented Wales Under-15’s.
She was only attending to watch her brother in action, but Casi went on to have a fantastic tournament for Pwllheli.
The team had no specialist keeper, so took turns between the posts. Manager Erica Jones was absent due to work commitments – she would have been so proud of the team’s efforts.
Although they beat Llandudno 1-0, Pwllheli were defeated 3-0 by Rhyl B – their sole loss of the day.
The late winner in the Llandudno game saw Katie Bowe change her usual tactic to shoot from a free kick and slide the ball to Casi Evans, who smashed into the top corner.
This meant the tournament went to goal difference, but the withdrawal of a team which had already lost heavily to Llandudno before they played Pwllheli, meant the Llŷn Peninsula side could only be awarded a 3-0 victory over the now absent competitors, which meant Pwll finished runners-up on GD.
Meatfielders (pictured above) took the men’s title at today’s Amlwch Tournament.
A closely contested final against Club Dewi ended 0-0 but the boys in blue kept their nerve to win the penalty shoot-out.
