This is probably the last article I’ll write on the 2019-20 North Wales women’s football season.
I’ve stretched it as far as I can – end-of-season awards, best signings, stand-out players, team-by-team assessment….the one thing I didn’t do though, was a Team of the Season.
So here we go……well done to everyone and let’s hope you’re all back in action in the not too distant future.
Stood out among all the keepers I saw last season.
Great shot stopper and very courageous. Rhyl only conceded six league goals and finished a very promising third in their first season in North Wales Division One.
Rock-solid 19-year-old defender who really came on in leaps and bounds throughout the season. Looking forward to a new football adventure in 2020-21. Daughter of former Llanrug player Dilwyn Morris I discovered this week!
The complete central defender, strong in all areas, remarkable maturity to her play for a 17-year-old. She is also a danger going forward with her free kicks and attacking set pieces.
Won both Players’ Player and Managers’ Player of the Season with her club. Aged 18, brilliantly consistent in her first proper season in senior football, strong in the tackle and good on the ball.
The youngest of a very youthful back four, having turned 17 just last month. Beca adapted to senior football with Bethel like a duck to water. Very strong and with the ability to hit a tremendous pass, she also got on the scoresheet last season.
Scored 14 goals in her debut season with Amlwch to add to the 18 she notched for Bethel in 2018-19.
Slotted in perfectly to a brilliant side which won the Division Two title, her pace down the left, crossing and passing ability and finishing making this 17-year-old another star of the campaign.
Joined Amlwch in summer 2019 from Caernarfon after representing the Ynys Môn side which reached the final of the Inter-Island Games.
What a season she had! Ffion scored 19 times for her new team, making her the top-scorer of league goals in the entire NWWFL.
Powerful and energetic attacking midfielder who is a goal-maker as well as goal-taker.
Scored 12 goals from the midfield for the Division Two champions.
With all the added quality players around her this season, Cerys only got more formidable.
Has to be one of the most consistent and influential midfielders around.
Former Wales Under-16 international and 2014-15 U-16 Welsh Cup winner with Prestatyn, Rachel added experience and class to the newly-formed NFA team this season.
The goals she scored actually boosted this Team of the Season’s midfield total to 50 in all – that says so much.
With Lloydy also having played many times in the Welsh Premier League for Rhyl, she is a real asset to this team with her energy and shooting ability. And still just a baby of 21!
My overall Player of the Season in North Wales football is a natural choice for this team.
Off the back of finishing top scorer for Ynys Môn in the Inter-Island Games in summer 2019, she went on to grab 20 for Division Two champions Amlwch in league and cup.
Even on a slight off-day, Lexi gets goals. Another whose Welsh Premier experience makes her a stand-out in the North Wales League.
When I first saw former Tranmere Rovers prospect Candice play for Rhyl in the Welsh Premier, I felt she was a tremendous all-round forward who just needed to add goals to her game.
This season she did just that for Division Two newcomers Nomads, for whom she slotted away 16 goals, also netting in the Deesiders’ famous Welsh Cup win over Port Talbot.
Still just 19 years of age, I can only see her going from strength to strength.
