Vale of Clwyd & Conwy League: More cup joy for NFA, Rhuddlan nine points clear

Fantastic goalmouth action captured by Steve Bowden as Rhuddlan (blue) take on Abergele

Rhuddlan Town moved nine points clear at the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division summit as they made it 14 matches unbeaten with a 2-0 home win over fellow high-flyers Abergele.

Wayne Hughes’ side made the perfect start when Matty Rees blasted into the top corner from 18 yards after just two minutes.

In a game dominated by the wind. Abergele hit the post on the hour, but Rhuddlan remained strong against the elements, Ian Davenport securing the win with a tidy finish from inside the area after good work from Jordan Bellham on 75 minutes.

Winning manager Hughes said: “Great result for the lads today with us missing six players from last week’s win against Llanfairfechan. All credit goes to Keiran Evans, who took the team today, and all the lads.”

Bro Cernyw pipped Y Glannau 1-0.

In bad weather conditions, both sides missed a number of chances.

The deciding goal came in the 34th minute when Bryn Griffiths was brought down in the penalty area and centre-back Colin Roberts slotted the ball home with venom, making up for his last spot-kick miss.

In the Normac Precision Engineering JT (Charlie) Jones Presidents Cup quarter-finals, Division One NFA were in giant-killing mood again as they defeated Premier side Llanelwy Athletic 3-2.

The on-fire Jordan Taylor grabbed another hat-trick for the Rhyl-based winners, Joe Lloyd and an own goal keeping the visitors in the contest.

Llysfaen broke a mini-jinx when they eliminated Llandudno Amateurs Reserves 2-0, Sean Sheridan and skipper Alec Jones on target in the second half.

In two previous meetings this term, Emlyn Robert Jones’ side had been held to draws by Tudno – the only two blots on their almost perfect league copybook.

Llansannan booked a home tie with Llysfaen in the semi-finals after Tom Lewis’ men edged a 3-2 verdict at Llanfairfechan Town.

Ifan Jones, an own goal, and a Geraint Jones strike saw Sannan advance, Sion Devereux and Ellis Jones for the hosts, who lost at home for the first time this season.

Ash McKinstry and Alex Stokes got the goals which booked Llandudno Athletic a 2-1 success at Meliden and a home semi against NFA. Adie Croughan replied for Meliden.

Semi-finals: Llandudno Athletic v NFA, Llansannan v Llysfaen.

Just one game went ahead in Division One, Denbigh Development taking the honours 5-3 at Rhyl All Stars.

Joel Rowlands (2), Morgan Jones, Ryan Williams and Rob Lawson split the away goals, Simon Roberts with all three for Rhyl All Stars.
