Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League: Llysfaen impress, Abergele go nap, Rhuddlan head the premier

Abergele enjoyed a 5-1 victory

Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League

Llysfaen maintained their good start to the season in Division One by beating Llanfairfechan Town Reserves 2-0 at the Bananabeau Stadium.

The first half ended 0-0, mainly due to Fechan keeper Kyle Jones, who made some fine saves, as well as Llysfaen being wasteful in front of goal.

After the break, the hosts broke the deadlock when Jake Reynolds converted a penalty after 55 minutes before Llysfaen left it late to finish the game off, Nathan Russell scoring on 87 after some fine play from Sean Sheridan.

Winning manager Emlyn Robert Jones said: “Great three points for us today; we made life hard for ourselves at times as we were quite wasteful in front of goal, which speaks volumes about how we approached the game against a very good Llanfairfechan side.

“In the second half their keeper pulled three world-class saves off, the one from Shez that he got fingertips on to put round the post was absolute quality and not many keepers save them.

“That could have changed the game but luckily we kept our noses in front and saw the game out, but even after that he made two or three superb saves, not to mention two off the line from the defender in quick succession.

“I thought our shape was tremendous and everyone put a real shift in. Keeping a clean sheet against a team like them highlights that.”

Henllan saw off Rhyl All Stars 6-0, Fran Roberts (2), Kieran Kendrick, Alex Thomas (2) and Liam Davies producing the goods, while Machno United defeated Llandudno Amateurs Reserves 5-2, Dion Lloyd (2), Damien Eyre, Rhidian Williams and Seb Owen for the hosts, Steve Collins with two for the visitors.

Rhuddlan Town lead the Premier Division table after a 3-2 victory at Rhos United.

Jay Whitehouse, Nathan Smith and a winning penalty from Connor Bucknall clinched the points for Wayne Hughes’ side, who were reduced to 10 men midway through the second half when Dale Lewis was dismissed for a second yellow.
Lewis Sealy and Femi Allison replied for Rhos.

Jack Hoult (2) James Lloyd, Sam Aston and Tom Fortune shared the goals in Abergele’s 5-1 home beating of Cerrigydrudion, Sion Williams responding, while Bro Cernyw took the honours 2-1 at Meliden.

Carwyn McFadden put Bro in front, Chris Marsden equalised, but Ianto Roberts hit back immediately for what turned out to be the winner, all the goals coming in the first half at Ffordd Pennant.

Y Glannau and Llanelwy Athletic played out a 2-2 draw. Rhys Thomas Clark and Joey Fontana netted for the hosts, Dan Price and Sam Stepforth for the visitors.
