Netball: Arfon end Mavericks unbeaten record in Gwynedd and Anglesey League Division One
Dyffryn Ladies were in winning form

Arfon Ladies wiped out the last remaining undefeated record in Division One of the Gwynedd and Anglesey Winter Netball League this season when they beat Menai Mavericks 30-22 on Wednesday night.

There was a lot riding on this encounter after expected title contenders Arfon lost their first match last week. They could not afford back-to-back defeats.

Only a goal separated the pair in each quarter up to half time. Unbeaten Mavericks got off to a good start, going 3-0 up, but Arfon brought back the deficit to 5-6 by end of first quarter.

More of the same emerged in the second, with the centre court players making numerous interceptions.

Mavericks tried to change things around in the third quarter, bringing on fresh players, but this was when Arfon got stronger and surged ahead to 24-16 by the end of the session.

The eight-goal margin remained unchanged, with the final quarter ending 6-6.

Even though Arfon Celts were in control from the start of their match, opponents Porthmadog gave a good account of themselves.

Port never gave up until the final whistle and are improving all the time, but another well deserved five points for Celts from a 31-18 success.

Elsewhere, Dyffryn Ladies beat Walis in a close one, while the goals gap was more emphatic as Primos overcame Dreigiau Brynrefail.
