Football: Seven magnificent weekend performances across the leagues

Cymru North
Colwyn Bay 1 Porthmadog 2

At a time of disruption and uncertainty Porthmadog pulled out all the stops to record their best result of the season.

Travelling to a Bay side on a run of seven straight wins the day after manager Sion Eifion Jones had stepped down following Port’s disappointing start to the campaign was far from an ideal scenario for the Traeth men.

But with former boss Craig Papirnyk at the helm, Port truly showed what they were made of.

Mitchell Bryant had given the Bay a 27th minute lead, but Iddon Price landed a deserved equaliser before the break and Ilan ap Gareth’s second-half penalty clinched a crucial triumph for the visitors.

Penrhyncoch 3 Prestatyn Town 2

Quite a shock at Cae Baker where leaders Prestatyn suffered just a second league defeat of the season.

Hats off to Penrhyncoch for making it happen.

Steffan Gittins bagged a 94th minute winner for the Roosters. who had earlier struck through Ifan Burrell and Steffan Davies, Jordan Davies and a Rhys James own goal keeping Town in the contest before the dramatic ending.

FAW Trophy round four
Radnor Valley 4 Mold Alexandra 3

With Radnor languishing near the Mid-Wales League Division One basement and Mold in fine form in the Welsh National League Premier, an away win looked the likeliest outcome at School Lane.

However, the home side really raised their game, and by all accounts were good value for their 4-3 success.

Valley advanced thanks to a Joe Price hat-trick and Geraint Jones single, Dave Bryan, Ben Howarth and Matty Lewis pushing Alex close.

Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One
Llandyrnog Utd 4 Mynydd Llandegai 2

Wins have been hard to come by for Llandyrnog this season, so what a cracking result for them against a Llandegai side giving a lot of top teams difficult rides of late.

Mike Guest edged Dyrny in front before Ben Parker and Gavin Owen hit back to give the visitors a half-time lead.

United turned the tables in the second half, Josh Jones (2) and Craig Jones sealing them the points.

Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two
Kinmel Bay 2 Gwalchmai 5

A memorable day for the prolific Marc Evans as his five goals secured Gwalchmai the victory which sent them to the Division Two summit.

Kinmel Bay had not lost at home in the league all season, so a great outcome for the Anglesey side, who re-signed Evans in September.

Bontnewydd 1 Caergybi 5

It’s been a frustrating season so far for Caergybi – their first in the Gwynedd League.

Lack of continuity in their fixtures has been their biggest problem, and they travelled to a Bontnewydd side above them in the table on Saturday.

However, Dale Moffat’s men delivered the goods in style, James Ryan (2), Ian Williams, Nathan Lewis and Glenn North sharing the five away goals.

Top Mark Uniforms North East Wales League
Chirk Town 4 Brymbo Victoria 1

New boys Chirk Town brought an end to leaders Brymbo Victoria’s 11-match unbeaten run with a 4-1 victory over their rivals.

Now the only undefeated side in the league, Chirk made it eight without loss courtesy of goals from Jordan Dooley, Steve Roberts and Tom Freeman (2).

Vics are still six points clear at the peak, but just seven ahead of Chirk, who have four games in hand.
