Gwynedd League – October 15, 2019

Jamie Petrie led the way with five goals as 1876 rattled up their biggest victory yet in completing 12 straight wins in all competitions on Tuesday night.

The blue, white and reds are now just three points behind leaders Trearddur Bay Bulls with two games in hand after making it seven league victories on the bounce in which they have amassed a remarkable 52 goals.

Struggling Bethesda, next-to-bottom and just one win all season, were never going to upset the script.

The Treborth hosts did not even replicate their somewhat regular routine of falling a goal behind and then taking their opponents apart in the second half.

In this game they were 9-0 up by the interval, leaving everyone in the ground wondering what huge goals tally they would eventually chalk up.

Tuesday night’s rout began in the second minute, Dylan Summers-Jones pouncing on a loose goal kick, before rounding the keeper and passing the ball into the back of the net.

On five minutes a Cameron Barry corner was played into the path of Petrie, who fired in from a tight angle to double the score.

Cian Williams volleyed in from Dion Jones’ low cross, then Les Davies converted on the rebound, after the keeper parried Petrie’s shot into his path.

Ten minutes gone, 1876 4 Bethesda 0.

In the 23rd minute, a good run forward from Shaun Lock led to the ball finding Petrie, who duly fired past the keeper.

Dion Jones opened his account for the season on 27 minutes via a deflected shot, Petrie with the assist.

Petrie beat the offside trap before lashing past the keeper for 7-0, then the scorer set up Davies, whose fierce strike flew in between the keeper’s legs.

The first half scoring ceased in the 41st minute, Dafydd Thomas’ cross finding Dion Jones, whose powerful header found the bottom corner.

Half-time: 9-0.

Double figures was reached by 1876 for the third time this term in the 49th minute when Davies’ sublime through ball released Petrie to shoot home.

On 67 minutes Davies fed Jamie Thomas, whose cross enabled Petrie to put away his fifth of the night and 22nd of the season.

Summers-Jones beat the offside trap before making it 12, then Barry displayed quick feet to enter the box, before arrowing a great shot into the top corner.

Five minutes from the end Summers-Jones completed a hat-trick with a great finish after yet again beating the offside trap to make it 18 goals this term.

This rearranged first round tie at Belle Vue, Rhyl, saw 1876 require two second-half goals to eliminate their Vale of Clwyd and Conwy Premier Division hosts and reach the next stage.

Mel Jones’ side started without big guns Jamie Petrie and Dylan Summers-Jones, while star turns Les Davies and Michael Johnson were ineligible, thus giving some of the fringe players a chance to make their mark.

The visitors went ahead in the 26th minute when a quick counter led to Leon Owens’ shot being spilled by the keeper, and Dylan Williams scored.

Five minutes later, Llanelwy were back on terms after a header by Liam Rowland Jones was deflected past keeper Danial Williams.

The Gwynedd League side edged back ahead in the 51st minute, when a free kick from Shaun Lock found Luke Steele, who fired in from a tight angle to beat the keeper.

In the 67th minute a good cross from substitute Petrie set up Benn Lundstram to apply a fine finish.
