Trearddur Bay Bulls are setting the early pace in the Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd League after going outright top with a 1-0 home win over champions Menai Bridge Tigers.
It was a third straight victory for Richard Owen’s side, who were known as Bryngwran Bulls when they lifted the Anglesey League title last season, but have now amalgamated with Trearddur Bay United and adopted two-thirds of the name of their landlords.
Saturday’s clash with Menai Bridge was already seen as a six-pointer as it featured two teams with 100% records.
And it was Bulls who took the spoils thanks to Justin Williams’ 23rd minute strike which made it six goals in three outings for the former Valley forward.
Talysarn Celts edged a 5-4 thriller over Bethesda Athletic.
Luke Baum, Glyn Tomos (2), Dylan Roberts and Rhodri Jones’ 90th minute decider clinched it for Celts, but Pesda went close thanks to a Luis Teles double, plus singles from Shaun Morris and Greg Parry.
Glantraeth and Llanystumdwy both picked up their first point of the season after sharing a thrilling 3-3 draw which saw the Anglesey side strike twice very late on.
Each combatant had some close calls before in the 34th minute a piece of clever play led to Cian Evans being fouled in the box, resulting in a penalty to Glantraeth. Dillon Roberts stepped up to fire home.
Guto Roberts replied for the visitors, then Llanystumdwy went 2-1 up in the 59th minute through Richard Evans.
Glantraeth continued to create chances, Evans’ square ball turned over from close range by Josh Radin. Soon after Radin found himself in space in front of goal but shot wide.
Llanystumdwy had a man sent off, but it was they who struck next through Owen Pritchard to make it 3-1.
In fairness this did not dampen home spirits and the young side produced a strong finish.
Heading into the 90th minute Glantraeth forced a corner which was turned in by Evans at the back post.
Then straight from the kick-off, a free kick was knocked into the box by Morgan Rowlands and headed home by Corben Renton to rescue a dramatic point.
