Countdown to 2019-20: Anglesey Football League

It may be the lowest-ranked league in North Wales but it is never the least exciting.

Season after season, the Anglesey Football League gives us a thrilling title race and usually two or more exceptional teams who often go on to bigger things.

Losing both Bryngwran Bulls (now Trearddur Bay Bulls) and Caergybi from last season is quite a blow, but there is still plenty of quality in the ranks.

Arriva Bangor, who finished third last season and lifted the Benllech Car Boot Trophy, look a great bet to be right up there pushing for top spot.

Managers Kevin Jones and Lee Allen have brought in many class players over the summer, including proven goal-getter Andy Clarke, defender Harry Jones and the highly-rated Dion Williams, as well as securing the quick return of net finder extraordinaire Scott Hughes.

Arriva also have a fine crop of young players and for me look to have what it takes to lift the title this season.

Cemaes Bay have made some good signings over the summer, including prolific striker Steven Whittaker and the versatile Lewis Connor, which could set them up for one of their better seasons, while CPD Cefni, fourth last term, are expected to produce another respectable showing.

CPD Y Fali have been prolific in the transfers department, Casey Boylan, Jerome Sillence and Owain Roberts among the very best of the arrivals.

Boylan and Sillence have played at a higher level, and their influence, plus the retention of several other key names, could make Y Fali a team to watch.

Holyhead Hotspur Reserves are another side which could be pushing for prizes.

Having lifted the Megan Cup last term, this young team can only go from strength to strength and the capture of goal machine Craig Moore could prove vital to their hopes of success.

There should be plenty of interest in the form of Mountain Rangers, back on the senior soccer scene after a few years’ absence.

Manager Alex Philp has brought many experienced heads on board over the summer, Ian Pleming and Aled Steele offering limitless goals potential in attack.

For me, it’s Arriva for the title, with Cemaes Bay, Y Fali, Holyhead Hotspur Reserves and Mountain Rangers the main dangers.
