League champions Llangefni Town begin title defence in winning style

Llangefni kick-started their title defence at Cae Bob Parry with a hard-fought 4–1 victory over Kinmel Bay on Sunday.
Stepping onto the pitch for their first league fixture as reigning champions, the pressure was on, and the home side endured a test of resilience before showing their title-winning quality.
The title-holders didn’t get the start they were hoping for. Kinmel Bay caught the hosts cold early on, winning a penalty in just the 7th minute and taking an early lead through captain Seren Williams.
It took some time for Llangefni to settle into their rhythm and start playing to their usual standard, but once they found their feet, there was no looking back.
It was Jess Jones who brought the champions back level in stunning fashion, picking up the ball outside the area and finding the net with a long-range strike that flew out of reach of the Kinmel Bay keeper to make it 1–1.
Momentum firmly swung in the home side’s favour when a Kinmel Bay defender was penalised for a handball in the box following a dangerous cross from Jess Woods.
Jess Jones stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick. Although the Kinmel Bay keeper Steph Farley made a brilliant initial save, Jones reacted first to convert the rebound and net her second of the match.
Llangefni extended their lead further through Lowri Thomas. Hitting a powerful strike from around the 18-yard line, Thomas beat the keeper, who managed to get a hand to it, but couldn’t keep it out as it nestled into the top right corner for 3–1.
The home side saved the absolute best for last, rounding off the afternoon with a team goal. The excellent Carys Lock stopped a Kinmel Bay attack before the loose ball fell to Marissa George who played a pass to Jess Woods, who drove forward with pace before delivering a pinpoint cross for Milly Lowe to score on the volley. Stunning goal!
Llangefni Town Ladies return to Cae Bob Parry on Sunday, October 4th, where they will face Towyn FC Ladies for the very first time.
