Who is in the running for the Bangor City 1876 manager’s role? Check out some of the names being mentioned….

With the Bangor City 1876 manager’s role up for grabs, there have been some interesting contenders suggested on social media outlets.

Here’s a rundown of some of the most prominent names mentioned so far…..

Lee Dixon

Current favourite, is already Director of Football at Bangor City 1876 and is involved in all aspects of running the club.

Proven trophy winner at Cymru Alliance/Tier 2 level having lifted the title as boss of Llangefni Town, also landing a famous treble with Caernarfon Town in 2012-13.

Has not been in management since stepping down as Caernarfon boss in 2015, but his contacts and knowledge have always kept him on the pulse. 

Gareth Wilson

Has taken Brickfield Rangers to their highest level of Tier 2 this season and currently leads the Cymru North.

Since being appointed Brickie manager in 2020, Wilson has steadily built a strong team which culminated in winning the Ardal North East title – the club’s biggest honour – last season.

Has also managed in the Cymru Premier with Prestatyn Town, but Wilson is thriving at Brickfield having committed his future to the club earlier this year.

Could the lure of Bangor City 1876 change his outlook?

Lee Fowler

Current manager of Cymru Premier club Flint Town United and has bags of experience in the game, both in playing and management.

Has won promotion from the Cymru North before with the Silkmen, so is well-equipped to achieve Bangor’s immediate ambition of top-flight football.

Steve Evans

Works alongside Fowler at Flint, but would a glamour job like the Bangor one which offers the opportunity to be a number one appeal?

Masses of experience in football, with management achievements including guiding Colwyn Bay to the Cymru North title in 2023.

As a player starred for Wrexham, Wales and won heaps of honours with The New Saints.

Also a fantastic track record in youth management – Evo ticks many boxes.

Nigel Adkins

Why not! After managing Bangor City to League of Wales titles in 1993-94 and 1994-95, Adkins went on to manage at a host of major clubs, including Southampton, Reading, Sheffield United, Hull City and Charlton Athletic.

Was last in charge at Tranmere Rovers in 2025. Now 61, but would be a huge name to bring in and Bangor have long proved they do not lack in ambition.

Sean Eardley

Assistant to Michael Johnston before Johno’s recent departure and currently acting as temporary boss.

Would be a logical choice, given his familiarity with the players and set-up at Bangor City Stadium.

Did a fantastic job at Caernarfon Town when he took over from Iwan Williams during the 2017-18 season, leading the Canaries to the Cymru Alliance title and back to the Cymru Premier for the first time in 10 years,

Adjusted superbly to life in the national league, inspiring the Cofis to two top-six finishes.

Great character and highly popular, but he’s believed to have said in recent times he prefers the number two role, so will he even apply for the City job?

Huw Griffiths

Has an outstanding record in management, but has not had a top job since leaving Caernarfon Town in 2022-23.

A very popular figure at Bangor City in his playing days, he went on to impress as an assistant manager at Colwyn Bay, Southport and Chester City before taking on full managerial duties with Welshpool, Bala Town, Cefn Druids and Caernarfon.

Could he be the man to take over as the BCS?

Iwan Williams

Has not worked at the top end of Welsh football since departing as assistant-manager of Flint Town United in 2023-24.

Very impressive CV, having been a Cymru Alliance title-winning manager at Caernarfon Town, leading Llandudno in the Cymru Premier and is a past director of football at Bangor 1876.

Later became technical coach at Chester before a stint as Penrhyndeudraeth boss prior to joining Flint.

Will he be in the minds of Bangor City 1876 chiefs based on his past experience?

Jamie Reed

Another highly popular former Bangor player who is currently a squad member at Cymru Premier newcomers Holywell Town.

Has shown interest in developing his skills on the coaching side of football, but would an appointment of Bangor City 1876 esteem come too early for him?

Declan McManus

The former SFL and The New Saints pro has had a great start to life as a Bangor City 1876 player, but is he management material? 

Like Reed, it may be too early to think of McManus in such terms, but if City keep him on board and his coaching prowess continues to develop, he could be one for the future.
