LDCC: Colwyn Bay celebrate win double, but frustrating afternoon for Northop Hall and Prestatyn

LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT COMPETITION REPORTS – AUGUST 8

1ST XI FIRST DIVISION

Colwyn Bay 1st XI (25) 243-7 dec Spring View 1st XI (5) 145-10

Jack Parry took five wickets for Colwyn Bay

Half-centuries from Matthew Thompson and Will Higginson helped Bay build a winning score before bowlers Jack Parry and Charlie Collins blew away the opposition.
Invited to bat, the hosts chalked up 243-7 declared off 53 overs, Thompson making 53 and Higginson 52, that pair putting on 71 for the fourth wicket.
Luke Russell added 32 not out, Jamie Critchley claiming 4-64 for the visitors.
Parry then grabbed 5-72 off 18.3 and Collins 4-39 from 13 as Spring View were dismissed for 145, Max Bittner 57.
A 25-7 victory for Bay leaves them in second place, just six points behind leaders Southport and Birkdale.

Northop Hall 1st XI (6) 179-9 Sefton Park (6) 219-7 dec

Hall produced some heroic late order batting to stave off defeat at Smithy Lane.
Sefton Park were put in and set a challenging 219-7 declared off 62.5 overs, Haroon Khan 71 and skipper Paul Horton 52.
For the home side, James Hurlin notched 4-75 and Paul Jenkins 3-94.
In reply, Hall openers Carwyn Johnson (39) and Jac Kennedy (36) put on 77 before an alarming collapse saw the Flintshire side lose four wickets for 0 runs – and then slump to 108-8.
At this stage, it looked all but over, but Hurlin (52) and Tom Hellen (38 not out) showed fine resistance in adding 52 before the former was out caught to leave Hall 160-9.
And final pair Hellen and Adam Jenkins held out to see the home side to a draw, Huzaifa Zubair 5-48 for the visitors.

1ST XI SECOND DIVISION

Prestatyn (4) 94-10 Norley Hall (25) 221-9 dec

A batting disaster cost Prestatyn dear at Beach Close.
Second-place Norley Hall won the toss and chose to bat, setting 221-9 declared off 55 overs, Daniel Fisher 52, Kieran New picking up 6-87 off 28 overs for the hosts.
Prestatyn were then rolled over for just 94, Callum Hughes 5-17 for the visitors.

2ND XI PREMIER DIVISION

Rainford 2nd XI (8) 142-10 Colwyn Bay 2nd XI (25) 167-10

Shaun Davies grabbed a stunning career best 7-26 as Bay jumped out of the relegation zone with a cracking win at Rainford.
Calling the coin correctly and opting to bat, the visitors posted 167 all out off 43.2 overs, Harry Spillane (49) and Sion Hellen (36) putting on a vital 57 for the sixth wicket, Muhummad Ali 4-27 for the home side.
Davies then ripped through the home batting line-up, his seven-for coming off 11.5 overs with Rainford all removed for 142. Points: 25-8.

2ND XI DIVISION TWO

Caldy 2nd XI (8) 235-7 dec Prestatyn 2nd XI (6) 133-6

Ashley Jones claimed 6-66 for Prestatyn seconds in their drawn encounter at Caldy.
The hosts set 235-7 declared, Rhys John Baker 83 with Jones the standout away bowler.
Prestatyn held on for the draw at 133-6, Steven Edwards 59 and Jones 35.

Hightown St Mary’s 2nd XI (6) 110-7 Northop Hall 2nd XI (8) 233-9 dec

Despite setting a big total at Hightown, Northop Hall were unable to take the victory.
The leaders were invited to bat and concocted 233-9 declared, Harley Pritchard 56, Owen Skillander 43.
Hightown clung on for the draw at 110-7, Adam Tamburro 50 not out, Pritchard 2-19, Oliver Jenkins 2-22 and Liam Evans-Ford 2-23 for the visitors.
