North Wales women’s all-time club XIs: No 6 – Denbigh Town

Denbigh Town ladies have been around for a good while and are no strangers to success.

Denbigh Town Ladies All-Time XI
Netty Jones

Brilliant shot stopper, very brave and probably Denbigh Ladies’ all time appearance maker. Involved in the 2014-15 North Wales League title success, the Betty Pickering Cup win, quarter-finals and semi-finals of the Welsh Cup. When Denbigh played Cardiff City in the Welsh Cup quarter-final, the Bluebirds recommended Netty to the Wales manager and she was invited to several training sessions but never got selected due to a lack of formal coaching within the structure.
Jade Davies

Right-back who was formerly with Wrexham Ladies in the Welsh Premier until they folded in 2015-16. Very versatile, could play FB, sweeper in a back 3, midfield or on the wing. Fast, skillful with an eye for goal and equally as comfortable defending.
Llio Hafal

Centre-back who came to Denbigh from Ruthin under 16’s when the team was formed and went on to become captain. One of the best side tacklers seen in Grassroots Women’s football and also a superb penalty taker, with a 100% record
Siwan Roberts

Central defender who came through the youth teams at Denbigh. Strong in the air and fearless in the tackle, ultra dependable.
Emily Morris

Left-back. The season Denbigh won the league she won players’ and managers’ player of the year. Full of energy, superb left foot, could tackle and also beat players for fun with skill and pace.
One of triplets who have been great servants to Denbigh Town, the other sisters being Charlotte and Lucy.

Gwawr Williams

Centre-mid from Corwen but came to Denbigh from Aberystwyth University. All-action central midfielder, run for fun, great tackler and scored some superb long range goals. Great all rounder as could play CB, LB and as a left winger.
Ceri Redman

Right-midfielder who had a very interesting history before her involvement with Denbigh Town. She represented Wales at rugby, played hockey for North Wales and netball for Gwynedd. She also played football in America. Arrived at DTFC in the 2016-17 season. Hard worker with a great understanding of the game.
Joanna McKinney

Former Northern Ireland under 15 International player, came to Denbigh after moving to the area from University in Liverpool. Skillful striker/midfielder, strong on the ball, two-footed, could score goals and defend in equal measures.
Mari Edwards

Centre forward who was top scorer for Denbigh Town in their 2014-15 title-winning campaign. Dynamic front player who went on to impress for other clubs including Airbus, then later managed Wrexham AFC Women.
Rosie Hughes

Prolific goalscorer now best known for her heroics at Wrexham, but before that was a stunning striker for the likes of Kinmel Bay, Llandudno and Denbigh Town.
Scored 18 goals for Denbigh in the shortened 2019-20 season, mainly in cups, including six in an 8-2 Welsh Cup demolition of Northop Hall.
Rosie’s assets are well celebrated, her 136 goals in 115 appearances for Wrexham earning her legendary status at the Adran Premier champions, but her short spell at Denbigh had a big impact too.
Lexie Smith

Good athlete, good in the air and a great left foot. Left-midfield was probably her best role, but Lexie had an ability to adapt to almost any position.
No more was this in evidence than in 2017-18. During a fragmented season for Denbigh, she was always prepared to play in any position to help the side, taking over the goalkeeping gloves at times and scoring some handy goals from defence and midfield.
