Bangor City 1876 Women seek brand new management team after Griffith steps down

Aron Griffith

Bangor City 1876 Women are aiming for a completely fresh leadership start this season.

The Genero Adran North team are seeking a new manager, assistant-boss and coaches for 2026-27.

This announcement follows the news that Aron Griffith has stepped down as first team manager after five seasons at the helm.

Griffith was part of a three-person management team when 1876 were formed at the start of 2021-22, working alongside Andrew ‘Lefty’ Wright and Lois Regan.

Bangor finished league runners-up behind CPD Y Rhyl 1879 that season, but went one better in the 2022-23 campaign, winning the Yier 3 North Wales Women’s League in a canter with 20 wins and two draws in 22 unbeaten matches, scoring 120 goals and conceding just 8.

Life has proved much tougher in Tier 2 Adran North, Bangor finishing seventh out of eight in both 2023-24 and 2024-25 and then bottom of seven last season.

The experienced Wright had left the club in February 2025 and three months later Richard Parry was unveiled as the new manager. Griffith was back as chief leader in December.

Despite City’s bottom-place finish, the FAW decided there would be no relegation from Adran North last season.

And things ended on a cheery note with Bangor beating Llandudno 2-1 in the NWCFA Women’s Challenge Cup semi-final before losing late on by the same score to Felinheli in the final.

Aron Griffith’s management team stats read:

LEAGUE: PLAYED 80 WON 39 DRAWN 12 LOST 29 GOALS FOR 225 AGAINST 154

CUP: PLAYED 29 WON 11 DRAWN 2 LOST 16 GF 51 GA 64

OVERALL: PLAYED 109 WON 50 DRAWN 14 LOST 45 GF 276 GA 218

Bangor City statement made the following statement today:

Bangor City 1876 Ladies can confirm that, by mutual consent, Aron Griffith has stepped down from his role as First Team Manager.
Aron has played a huge part in the recent success of the team, guiding the squad to promotion to Tier 2 and leading the club to the North Wales Coast FA Women’s Cup Final last season, where we narrowly missed out to Felinheli.
Everyone connected with Bangor City 1876 Ladies would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Aron for his commitment, hard work and dedication throughout his time with the club. His efforts have helped build a strong platform for the future, and he leaves with the appreciation and respect of everyone at the club.
We wish Aron every success for the future and thank him once again for everything he has done in the blue shirt.
