Strong Minds FC in ultra marathon for Hope House Tŷ Gobaith

A North Wales football team “all about the community” is aiming to score a major win for charity this summer.

On Friday, 26 June, Strong Minds FC will swap sprinting down the wing for pounding the pavement as they take on a Cardiff to Conwy relay challenge—running the length of Wales to raise funds for Hope House Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospices.

Eight runners and four support crew will complete the 251km (156-mile) route in continuous 5km relay stints as part of their “Castle 2 Castle Challenge”.

Craig Wilkinson from Strong Minds FC said: “We’re buzzing for this and have been training together every Thursday evening – although some of us are definitely more prepared than others.

“As a team, we’re all about the community and we’re proud to be raising money for Tŷ Gobaith.”

Strong Minds FC is a men’s charity football team that uses the power of sport to support mental health, creating a safe, welcoming environment for men of all ages while giving back to the local community.

Craig and teammate John recently visited Tŷ Gobaith in the Conwy Valley to see first-hand the impact of the charity’s work supporting children with life-threatening conditions and their families.

Craig added: “To say we were blown away by the amazing facilities and the dedication of the staff is an understatement.

“It’s a place filled with warmth, care and compassion.

“Every step we take and every penny we raise will help provide vital support for children and families in our community when they need it most.

“We can’t do this alone, and seeing the impact of this charity has made us even more determined to reach our fundraising goal.”

The team will start their challenge at Cardiff Castle and finish in Conwy, where they’ll be welcomed home by family and friends.

They have also received generous support from local businesses including Vestas, Specsavers, Co-op, Enterprise and Lime Leasing.

Fundraiser Nikki Sullivan said: “What a great group of people.

“What they’re doing for us is incredible, alongside the work they already do supporting mental health.

“We’ll be cheering them on every step of the way.

“Thank you – and good luck.”
