Ruthin family tackle city marathon for Hope House Tŷ Gobaith

Three brothers who hail from North Wales who have settled in Cardiff are taking on the city’s Half Marathon together for a great cause.
Sion, Gruffudd and Owain McKee, originally from Ruthin, all attended Cardiff University and are now living and working full time there.
The trio will be running together in the October 5th event to raise money for Hope House Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospices who support Welsh children and families living with a life-threatening condition.
The hospices. who have bases in North Wales and Oswestry, have 30 charity places in the sold-out event for just £25 and a £200 fundraising commitment.
Huw McKee, father of the three boys is leading the charge on their fundraising efforts and explained the family’s connection with the hospices.
He said: “My mother who sadly passed away in 2021 was the fundraising coordinator for the Corwen area and had been an avid supporter since the 90’s. She was often seen at events shaking collection buckets.
“We have done the Tŷ Gobaith Canal Walk in Llangollen and the Cycle Challenge in Shropshire several times to help raise funds, but this time the boys have decided to run in the half marathon.
“They’re very competitive and have committed to run together on this occasion – but we’ll see how that pans out as the route progresses.”
Huw and wife Iona will be making the journey to the Capital to stay with Sion and be in attendance to wave a Welsh flag along the route supporting their boys and all the other Welsh runners.
Hope House Tŷ Gobaith provide respite stays, nursing care, therapy sessions and family support for over 750 children and families with a life-threatening condition. Their services are free of charge and available from the point of diagnosis. It costs £10m a year to run and they are reliant on fundraising for over 80% of this.

Nicola Eyes is heading up the hospices’ Cardiff Half campaign and supporting their runners all the way.
