WHY DID NEFYN WIN THE LEAGUE?
- Watertight defence

Just 20 goals conceded in 28 games made the Penwaig back-line by far the most secure in the league.
At one stage between December and February, Nefyn did not let in a single goal in seven matches – all wins.
All title-winning sides need a great goalkeeper and in Alex Ward-Jones, formerly of Porthmadog, the Cae’r Delyn champions have the best.
In 27 appearances, Ward-Jones has kept a magnificent 15 clean sheets.
- Dynamic duo

League top-scorer Tomi Evans notched 26 goals and January signing Steffan Toplis hit 20.
This dynamic pair have been the most prolific up front partnership in the Premier, with 46 goals compiled between them as well as a combined 30 assists.
Evans has now amassed 67 league goals in the past three seasons for the Penwaig. Toplis made a huge difference at Cae’r Delyn after his switch from Pwllheli. scoring a hat-trick on debut and nine goals in his first four outings.

- Magnificent seven
From December 6 to February 28, Nefyn won seven league games on the bounce, netting 33 goals and not conceding a single one.
This awesome streak put the blue and whites right in the title picture and they never took their foot off the pedal.
- Key games
Home wins over fellow high-flyers Menai Bridge Tigers and Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs, plus a major 1-0 success at Nantlle Vale in October are the kind of results Nefyn will look back on as vital to their title glory.
Doing the double over a dangerous Talysarn Celts also stood the champions in good stead.
They could win big, such as in 8-0 and 7-0 canings of Llannerchymedd and Penrhyndeudraeth resoectively, or grind out narrow victories, like the one which sealed the title, a 2-1 verdict at Llanberis.
- Last lap to glory
Nefyn’s 1-0 loss at Blaenau Ffestiniog on April 14 was their first defeat in 13 league matches. If that result put any doubts in Penwaig minds about their ability to win the league they certainly didn’t show it, as four subsequent straight victories carried them to title glory.
