Two clubs which merged for the 2025-26 season have gone their separate ways.
In March 2025, Conwy Borough and Llandudno Swifts announced an amalgamation to create Conwy Borough Swifts, a team competing in the Tier 4 North Wales Coast League East Premier Division.
However, it was recently revealed Cymru North champions Llandudno FC had taken Llandudno Swifts back under its wing as a sister club.
And today, Conwy Borough declared it had reverted to its original name and ended its association with Swifts.
In a statement, Conwy Borough said: “Conwy Borough FC is pleased to confirm that, from the start of the 2026/27 campaign, our senior men’s teams will revert to the traditional and wider club name, Conwy Borough FC.
“This decision reflects our long‑term vision, our heritage, and our commitment to strengthening the club’s identity across the community and the wider Welsh football landscape.
“The change comes at an exciting time for the club. Our developing partnership with Blue Turtle Group is already helping us modernise our operations, grow our commercial capacity, and build stronger foundations for the future. Their support, combined with the dedication of our volunteers, players and supporters, places us in a stronger position than ever to push forward.
“With renewed focus, improved structures, and a united football pathway, the club is now firmly setting its sights on a return to Tier 3 – a level we believe reflects both our immediate ambition and the potential of football in Conwy.
“We look forward to an exciting season ahead and thank all retained players, supporters, volunteers and partners for their continued backing.”
Borough have already made a major signing for the 2026-27 campaign with the appointment of Bangor City great Sion Edwards as a player-coach.
Meanwhile, in relation to Swifts, Llandudno FC recently announced: “We’re delighted to welcome our sister club, Llandudno FC Swifts, back into the fold at Llandudno FC.
“The Swifts will provide a clear pathway for our younger players to step into senior football and continue their development.
“We’re also pleased to welcome (Swifts manager) Stevie Montgomery back to the club.”
Swifts were originally a football club from Llandudno which existed during the late Victorian era. The club was first mentioned in 1889. They competed in the Combination, North Wales Coast League, Welsh Cup, FA Cup and North Wales Coast Cup. The club was wound up in 1901 after a period of professionalism.
Following the demise of Llandudno Swifts, a new team Llandudno Amateurs were formed.
A new Llandudno Swifts team was founded in 2024, joining the North Wales Coast East Football League. In their debut season, they finished runners-up in North Wales Coast East Division One.
