Conwy Borough announce double management departure

Conwy Borough Swifts have announced Stevie Montgomery and Joe Carey have stepped down from the club’s management team.

Montgomery came on board at the start of the 2025-26 season, when Conwy Borough and Llandudno Swifts merged into one club.

The club will finish in a more than respectable fifth position in the Tier 4 North Wales Coast East Premier Division this season.

Boro ended their league fixtures with a 6-0 defeat at second-place Kinmel Bay on Saturday. Montgomery was listed as first team manager for that game and Simon Allen as team manager.

On the decisions of Montgomery and Carey to depart, Conwy Borough Swifts said in a statement  “This follows discussions around the FAW Tier 3 licensing requirements, particularly in relation to the necessary coaching qualifications. The club has been working towards aligning its management structure with these standards as part of its longer-term ambitions.

“Both Stevie and Joe were offered the opportunity to remain involved as part of a wider management and coaching team. However, they have chosen to step away at this time.

“We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Stevie and Joe for their hard work, commitment, and dedication during their time with the club. Their efforts have been greatly appreciated, and we wish them both the very best for the future.”

Although the club still carries the name Conwy Borough Swifts on the Cymru Football App, its own social media now uses just Conwy Borough.

Further updates regarding the management structure will be provided in due course, say the club.
