Two North Wales coast football clubs have announced a merger.

Conwy Borough of tier 3 Ardal North West and tier 5 North Wales Coast East Division One Llandudno Swifts are to amalgamate.

They will be known as Conwy Borough Swifts from next season.

Conwy Borough have carried that name since 2012, having previously been known as Conwy United from 1977.

Llandudno Swifts formed at the start of this season, bearing the same name as a club of high repute which existed from 1893-1901.

Boro have struggled badly in Ardal North West this term, currently lying bottom, while Swifts are an impressive third in their division.

In a statement today, the alliance hailed the announcement as the marking the start of an exciting new chapter for both teams.
“This move strengthens and unites two ambitious clubs with a shared commitment to the development of young local players, and succeeding both on and off the pitch, with a focus on improving engagement within the community.

“As part of the integration, the Swifts’ coaching and managerial staff, along with committee members will play a full, active and integral role within Conwy Borough FC, bringing valuable experience and fresh ideas to help drive us forward.

“To ensure a smooth transition, unified training sessions are already underway, allowing players and staff to build strong working relationships and prepare for the challenges ahead. We have been impressed by the talent, dedication, and team spirit of the Swifts’ squad, and we are confident that this collaboration will be a positive step forward for everyone involved.

“As such, the first team will play under the name of Conwy Borough Swifts FC as a show of the commitment and combined strength of this newly merged squad.”

Conwy manager Simon Allen said: “We are excited to welcome the Swifts’ players, coaches, and committee members into the Conwy Borough FC family. This amalgamation brings together two passionate footballing groups, and we look forward to working together to drive the club forward on and off the pitch.”

Llandudno Swifts manager Steve Montgomery added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our players, staff, and supporters to be part of a bigger project. We’ve already seen great energy in our combined training sessions, and we’re confident this move will help us all progress.

A special thanks to Chris, Simon and the team at Conwy for their warm welcome to our new home.

“We can’t wait to get started, moving forward as one team and one club.”

The clubs said: “This unification reflects our joint commitment to growth, development, and long-term success. We encourage all supporters to get behind the amalgamated team as we move forward together.”
