Things are looking good for Nefyn in the race for the Tier 4 North Wales Coast West Premier Division title.
If they can win at Llanberis on Tuesday night, the Cae’r Delyn side will be crowned champions. Any other outcome and it all goes down to the final weekend of the season.
The Penwaig surged back to the top of the table on Thursday evening, beating CPD Llanystumdwy with a ruthless 5-0 win.
With only two games remaining in the title race, it’s now in the hands of Alan Jones, Steve Jones and Michael John Evans’ side.
Menai Bridge Tigers’ 4-2 home loss to Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs on Friday night ruled the islanders out of the battle to finish first.
And Nantlle Vale dropping two points at Llanrug on Thursday night also made them second favourites for top spot
1st Nefyn United – Played 26 Points 61 Goal Difference 63
2nd Menai Bridge Tigers – Played 28 Points 60
3rd Nantlle Vale – Played 27 Points 59 GD + 66
Nefyn: May 12 – CPD Llanberis (away); May 19 – CPD Mynydd Llandegai (away)
Nantlle Vale: May 19 – Talysarn Celts (away)
Despite their dominance on Thursday, Nefyn had to remain patient against a stubborn home side.
The deadlock was finally shattered in the 38th minute when Noa Griffith ignited the scoring, firing home from the edge of the box with a great finish from a move orchestrated by Steffan Toplis down the left.
If Llanystumdwy thought they could reach the interval with hope, Tomi Jones-Evans had other ideas. In the 45th minute—the league’s most clinical striker doubled the lead, with a composed finish after a loose pass by Llan’s keeper Guto Roberts. It was a hammer blow from which the hosts would not recover from.
The second half was a showcase from Toplis by recording a hat-trick of assists on the night.
50th Minute: Toplis found Jones-Evans again, who made no mistake in bagging his second of the game with another composed finish.
74th Minute: Toplis turned architect once more, teeing up Rhys Williams to make it 4-0 from the tightest of angles.
86th minute, Rhys Williams broke away from the home defence after a great ball from midfielder Ifan Jones, only to be upended by the Llanystumdwy keeper. Undeterred, Williams composed himself and coolly slotted home the resulting penalty—his second goal of the evening, to complete the 5-0 rout.
All eyes now turn to Tuesday night’s high-stakes encounter against CPD Llanberis at Ffordd Padarn.
Revenge for Gwalchmai as they claimed a thrilling victory over a Bontnewydd side which beat them 4-1 just seven days earlier.
The result – a first win for Gwalch in five matches – also lifted them out of the bottom two.
The Maes Meurig men looked to have it in the bag by half time, Tomos Hughes, a great finish from John Jones and player-manager Craig Evans all on target to make it 3-0.
After the break, however, Bont rallied to level at 3-3, Adam Jones netting on 63 and 68 before Sion Kelly equalised after 71 – three goals in eight minutes from the Cae Stanley battlers.
There was another twist, though as player-boss Evans made it 4-3 to the hosts on 84 after his initial effort came back off the post and Hughes grabbed his second after 88 following a great through ball from Cian Evans to seal the win.
Asa Thomas struck twice for Boded to reach the 30-goal mark for yet another campaign.
North Wales’ all-time record goal-getter – 768 and counting after today – has hit the net 30 times in 11 of his 17 seasons in senior football.
Saturday’s triumph at Maes-y-Parc saw Boded gain revenge for a 4-3 home defeat to Penrhyn the previous weekend, a 10th win in 12 league matches raising them up to fifth spot.
Thomas broke the deadlock on six minutes from a Chris Jones assist, but Gwion Davies levelled after 31, Reece Evans setting him up.
Boded looked to be in bother on the hour when Casey Boylan was red-carded, but this only inspired the islanders to new heights, Thomas’ 30th goal of the season and Jones’ 21st making it 3-1, the scoresheet entries arriving on 75 and 78 minutes respectively. Thomas and Jones also provided the assists for each other’s goals.
Callum Jones pulled one back for Penrhyn on 87, but the 10 men held on for a superb victory on the road.
Blaenau’s blazing end to the campaign continued as they extended their undefeated run to six games with a victory which ended Menai’s outside title hopes.
Having held the Tigers 1-1 at Cae Clyd the previous weekend, the Quarrymen went one better at Treborth, Iwan Jones, the in-form Ceri Roberts and a Sion Hughes double giving them a shock 4-0 interval lead – and it could have been more emphatic.
Jamie McDaid bagged a second half double on 67 and 85 minutes to deliver Bridge some hope, but this was Blaenau’s night.
It was also Tigers’ first home league defeat of 2025-26.
Celts made it five wins in their last six league encounters by edging past the Darans on Friday evening.
Tomos Owen’s 11th minute strike gave Llanberis a half time lead, but Talysarn hit back with goals from Glyn Hughes-Thomas, Jack Usher and sub Thomas Usher’s 88th minute penalty to move 3-1 ahead in the second period.
Thomas Usher was red-carded four minutes into stoppage time and Guto Jones pulled one back for the visitors with his 19th goal of the campaign, but the home side held on for the victory.
Nantlle Vale’s hopes of being crowned champions took a knock on Thursday evening when they were held at Eithin Duon.
Ashley Owen’s 25th goal of the season put Vale into the lead on the hour, but Owain Jones levelled after 68 and 1-1 is how it stayed.
